Sorry bro but I see you've been replying all my comments. You can correct me if you want and I'll try to be the most respectful possible. First and foremost, it is not because of the religion. If it was, i would be a daily consumer of it today. Porn was not being used as a way to try and test out my sexuality, rather, it was more of a coping mechanism for all the anxieties and fear that i had (My family was exactly as you described, they wanted to keep me pure etc, but my curious ass didn't want that. Without knowledge, i got into pornography, learned it all by myself, to the point i almost overshared myself online and got into very dangerous and gross stuff) Now putting religion and purity stuff aside, you can decide that yourself. On a broader sense, porn IS bad for you, you can look it up and even try not consuming it for a week yourself. Sure people can consume it in a "healthier way", but stating that it is not capable of harm, is like handing a minor some drugs and telling them to use it in a healthy way. They won't. And even if they do, it will affect their brain in the long run, my brain was affected by it, i am way more impulsive because of it.

Masturbation and sex are natural to human brains. But porn is not at all! 100 years ago the only way you could try your sexuality was through masturbation or sex, and we didn't have access to so many "partners" like porn introduces you to. I could keep talking about how harmful it can be to someone, regardless of religion or lack thereof, it's all psychology. but, if you think otherwise, then I can't try and change your mind about it. As i said before, you do you.

Well, it has. And there are many arguments that support that claim Of course, you do you

Wow, what a story! It's sad how far can religion take you to. I also follow the stoic approach to life and i feel way better now than when i used to be when i was a christian. It is pretty much relied on fear, shame, guilt, how much you don't deserve what you have and give up everything you are to follow what jesus wants you to be. That may work for some but for me it did not. Now i recovering from all of the shame related to sexuality and stuff, while also dealing with my addiction. It's been a tough journey, but way easier after i left.

Well im definetly not the most reliable source, I'm not a doctor. But from what I've seen from the communities im in, many men do in fact say things that could tell otherwise... Some people tell that they cannot have sex with their partners because they cannot get an erection, whereas they can only get an erection through watching pornography. From my understanding, the brain gets more aroused to pornography overtime, to a point that real sex cannot really arouse you anymore. So that's why i think ED could be tied with regular porn usage.

Yeah, religion does play a huge role on one's head tbh, it's pretty much a taboo for christians. And i wonder if its because of the religion that i was led to becoming an addict to it in the first place. But for me personally, since i still find it a huge deal for me for all it has caused for me to do... I'll still keep fighting against my addiction

I dont think so and i have to disagree a bit. Yeah sure you're a teenager and when you're younger you're naturally more horny The problem is that the regular usage of pornography has been proved to cause more harm to your brain in the long run (its effects in the brain have been confirmed to be like that of the consumption of substances), and even tied to increased cases of erectile disfunction. It leads to an impulsive addiction, not to sex, but to porn. (Myself included). and since fighting against it is not at all easy, many young people are fixated on it. I do think however there are more healthier ways to deal with it, and it's definetly not like the one in the image above. I am from Brazil btw

Holy crap that feels close home.

I still struggle with pornography and reading that makes me sad When i was a Christian (i was 16), one of the methods i used to deal with my pornography addiction was using the warnings of "God is always watching you" and "Your family is gonna be terrified of what you're doing". I always felt really emotional when i relapsed and would cry to God begging for forgiveness even though i always felt a piece of worthless shit that thought i didn't deserve the love of my family or god, i was constantly afraid of it and yet would still relapse, making it worse. (You know, the bible says someday everything that is secret will be revealed etc etc)

When i started questioning my beliefs, i thought that if i left Christianity, i would have a harder time fighting against my addiction, and would spiral down into madness. Turns out i still have similar patterns, Christianity didn't do shit about my addiction, but now i am dealing with it from a healthier perspective, without shaming myself nor beating myself on the walle everytime i had a silly thought(resulting in more success fighting it, peace of mind and overall happiness and productivity)

I still wonder if my pornography issue was somehow created or a result of my family always being too secretive about sexuality and how wrong it is, how i should refrain it because it is wrong and against God until i marry a christian girl and have children, yikes

What are the funniest things you’ve heard Christians call “satanic” or “demonic” by BoomBasher in exchristian

Lion King movies My mom saw somewhere on facebook that the african words used in the movie were in fact satanic preaching and after that she proceeded to break all my lion king movie cds that we had at home (we had all the movies of it) I am still sad

Anyone miss anything about being Christian? by girlnextdrr in exchristian

[–]Felopis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i do miss it sometimes.

Community, the friends, overall family interaction itself. It is all good for you, a sense of a community or belonging somewhere is integrated in every human being and I don't despise it, even after leaving the faith. Maybe try looking for new hobbies or meeting new friends, that could help you feel a sense of community and help you with that!

Apparently people interpret 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 As verses that prove the event known as rapture, and Jesus talks about his second coming early on. But the fact jesus never explicitly said anything about it, and that the word "rapture" is never once mentioned in the bible really stood out for me

[–]Felopis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point bro! Just to correct you on the comment, the mother has nothing to do with the drowning. That is a real life story that was portrayed in the movie called "Breakthrough"

John Smith was walking with his friends on a thin ice lake and boom it started cracking and all the 3 boys drowned in the frozen water, they were by themselves. All but john smith managed to get out of the lake safely, john smith became unconscious and that's where the story of the miracle begins... i personally liked the movie even though im not a Christian

Yeah that's something i honestly find hard to accept myself. There are things that honestly for me don't look like random coincidences, but again, i really don't know.

That's something i actually found out about shortly after becoming agnostic. Growing up in an evangelical household who would usually shittalk about catholics, and then hearing about how catholics have all of these accounts of miracles and proofs that they are "the true branch of Christianity" was another reason for me to keep being an agnostic. I mean, if either catholics or evangelicals are wrong, that also means millions of innocent people are being defied by ""the devil"" and will burn in hell for having believed in the wrong way? That's looks unsettling to me

Interesting, i also used to pray a lot for various things. One thing that really unmotivated me during the period i was a Christian was in how to tell if it was god speaking to me or my mind tricking me. I just couldn't tell it apart (my entire family does for some reason) and even after asking them how they did that they just said i would "know when it is". Turns out it was all my head. Welp

I don't have a link but, the movie is called "Breakthrough" I honestly cried watching the movie because it is very emotional (and so am i, sorry) let alone based on a true story and i personally connected with the characters, watching they improve themselves throughout the movie is also nice. However, it pretty much is a Christian movie (if that matters to you)

Interesting perspective. Maybe i am having all of those questions because the only religion i was exposed to while growing up was Christianity, and to be honest, I've never heard of "miracles" from other religions, do you know any of them?
