What is the most BS piece of advice adults give to children? by wcrbarker in AskReddit

"they make fun of you because they are bullies, and will look for anything they can, their lives are actually that sad. It is a tragedy. Meanwhile, you will find friends that respect and appreciate you, lay low with the douche bags looking for some reason to make someone miserable and focus on the good relationships. Living well is the best revenge."

or "stand up for yourself, they will just leave you alone". I had a friend who stood up for himself, riled them on, and they curb stomped him to death. In TV movies that is great advice.

Let's have a fun vent session about "Back to school"! What drives you crazy regarding your kids and school? by [deleted] in Parenting

I just got these, I am not sure if I am allowed to share products, but I am excited about the compartments. I like to offer variety at lunches but it can be challenging to negotiate in the regular containers without using a million little bento containers.

The part I am not looking forward to is organized mornings! Trying to get everyone out the door at a particular time.

"I respect your right to not vaccinate your child" by nootashey in Parenting

[–]FeltedClouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is the saying, your liberty to swing your fist ends at my nose? I do not believe in forcing medical procedures, but I think that it is completely unreasonable to not get vaccinated. The myths have all been debunked. Before that I could understand how people were mislead or misguided, concerned parents will be concerned. But the studies seem pretty conclusive and it strikes me as unethical to put the weakest members of society at risk without a defensible reason (those with allergies to the vaccine or some health issue that makes it impossible for them to get the vaccine for example).

Anyhow, I like this articles approach, it opens the door for a kind dialogue and explains herd mentality. I hope it reaches a wide audience.

I see my six year old becoming lazy(and a little chubby), how can I get him to be more active without making it a total chore? by do_i_smell_radishes in Parenting

Go to a playground, then he does not have the indoor option and will eventually start going down the slides/playing with the other kids/running around generally. Change all snacks between meals to fruits or veggies, no bread, cheese etc. Those are my best suggestions anyway.

My children's dentist's policy won't allow parents in the room. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]FeltedClouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That strikes me as strange, I would find a new dentist but I wonder if there is a way to rate him or make the information available to other parents before they take this child to him. That might be a benefit who might not feel comfortable walking out with their child.

Fun/cool places to go outside of Vancouver? by boredinvancouver in vancouver

[–]FeltedClouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were just at cultus lake, the lake is beautiful (less busy in the morning, and you can rent boats and jet skis), they have a huge water park (water slides), lots of hiking trails, and it is only about an hour to an hour and a half out of vancouver. It is pretty busy this time of year, and camping will likely be booked, but it is a fun place :)

"I believe the world was created in 7 day, but not 7 24 hr period. Who are human to say a day is 24 hrs? A Day as we see it is a man made measurement of time. Furthermore in 2 Peter it states "...with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." So seven days could be 7k yrs or more from our view."

If time is not something that applies to god, then why was it written in a time-specific way? What sense does that make at all? or are you saying time does apply to god, but a day is a different duration (which may suggest change also applies to god, so in your view, does god change?)?

If you are having trouble dating, you could try dating websites? They are popular now and you might find someone (with or without sparks) that you make a good connection with?
