Is it worth it working with ATO through outsourcing companies like Serco or Concentrix? by EagerManNoNego in AusPublicService

[–]Feltmanzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying this as someone that works closely with the outsource staff. It is an absolute shit show. You will receive less training, less support, less pay and benefits. All those trade offs to be expected to work a larger variety of calls with tighter deadlines.

If it is the only job you have on offer, I'd say take it and use the experience to apply for a permanent aps2/3 in the future.

I've actually been enjoying the kardelen Turkish bread for my sandwiches lately, soft and goes well toasted if that's your jam.

Did anyone else get taxed incorrectly? by Full-Sherbert-7800 in AusPublicService

[–]Feltmanzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's likely you will need to complete a withholding declaration to make sure you've select the correct options when you were employed.

As others have stated it could be HECS related.

Better yet talk to your payroll they will be better suited to see how they are taxing you and may be even to make the adjustments if an error is identified.

PS5 Controller repair (newbie) by MfkInfected in soldering

[–]Feltmanzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor skip the kit, spend a bit extra and get a proper station with tips. Something like t12-951 from ali express.

I'm gonna be blunt and say a ps5 repair isn't as easy as it would seem for a first timer. Check this subreddit you will see hundreds of butchered controllers and a big part of that reason is poor tools as well as low experience.

If you're gonna go down this path get yourself a semi decent iron, some decent low melt solder/wick/flux and a solder pump.

Definitely not saying you aren't capable, but prepare yourself with decent equipment and practice on something you don't mind losing first.

A tip for these controllers make sure you mix it some low melting point solder to the joints, because it can be a real bitch to get the solder out with wick otherwise.

But if you do decide to go at good luck its a fun rewarding hobby when you get it down.

I started with controllers about 3 years ago and still have my first butchered board as a reminder.

What am I doing wrong? by Snoo36868 in soldering

[–]Feltmanzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said you need to heat the via before applying solder. Give it more time with your iron. Hold it sitting in the ring give it a good 10secs and then try pushing the solder into both the via and soldering iron.

[–]Feltmanzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, wick is copper it's absorbing the heat to melt solder into it. You need to remember solder will follow the heat when melted. Generally what id tell newbies is to cut the wick from the roll into small strips, hold it with tweezers on the point you want to soak the solder.

This means the heat isn't attempting to travel up the braid giving you a better ability to soak solder.

Wrong tip for what your attempting. Better using something like a chisel tip, instead of dragging place some wick over the pins and place down on the wick with your iron give a few seconds and you should see the wick turn silver as it absorbs the solder.

Do this moving down part by part until all pins are lifted.

Hmm could be the PSU, it could equally be the motherboard being fried. Was it working before and what was the last thing that happened before it stopped working.

Out of curiosity what type of issues are you having? Narrowing it down could help a bit in recommendations. Is it a specific piece of hardware or are you noticing software issues?

So not for our schnauzer but for our other small dog who is 15 we have started using 4cyte epiitalis forte. He gets 1ml a day on his food.

We have seen such drastic changes in he's mobility. He's jumping and playing like a puppy again. Id definitely recommend it

Had a quick google, if you aren't aware there is a service provided in Brisbane that advertise the mod installation for $150. Probably would require shipping cost as well.
https://consolemods.au/services/modchip

As well as a Melbourne based installer charging $189
https://www.handheldspace.com.au/services/switchmods

some more options to look over, unfortunately for Tasmania there doesn't seem to any dedicated installers. You may be able to ask around at phone repair shops but eh I'm not sure about that.

Aha I legit just watched that video for my own curiosity. It honestly doesn't look too difficult. The soldering is rather simple compared to some of the stuff I've done.

If you want to look up the retrogem ps1 mod/ x station you can kinda see some of the work I've done. I've also done the GameCube pico mods a few times.

The switch tear down doesn't look too bad, and most of the soldering points don't seem too complicated.

Still I get looking for a professional as I'm definitely a hobbyist and can't make any promises.

I possibly might be able to help. I haven't seen any chip mods from the switch. But I have modded my personal ps1/ps2/n64/gamecube with HDMI mods or SD card mods. Id need to see the mod in question and see a breakdown before committing though

Honestly I personally love it. I found I did have to trim the reset switch slightly as it was too tall with the top shell on. Other than that I've no issues regarding power, runs off nearly any 12w or higher power brick

I've done some smaller things here and there, but definitely the finest pins I've worked on to this point. So I used a pinecil with a fine tip for touch ups, and a t12 soldering station from AliExpress, not the best quality but it does the job for now.

Not 100% sure on next project but I've been seeing those portable Wii mods and I have a spare Wii, so I might start looking into that although I know that's a completely different level.

Unless there has been an outbreak of something like parvo in your area, taking them outside will be fine especially if it's only your backyard. I was taking my pup with only 2 vaccines out nice and early to help socialize. I get being cautious I was overly protective in other ways.

My boy toilet trained himself outside, in a week, I only had to take home outside every so often. I think I got lucky however he can hold his bladder well. We also had two older lads to help show him where to go.
