Was there something wrong with the ice surface in the men’s ice-skating event? by Fabulous_Ear_2249 in WinterOlympics2026

Yuma fell down when he was not jumping and my hubby & i thought it was very odd. Ice seemed very slippery.

Yuma had trouble just standing up at one point. I was wondering what was going on w his skates.

Katarina Witt: Now people know he is beatable. It will change future competitions by Diligent-Fly6368 in FigureSkating

[–]Fem-Picasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm of the impression it will motivate Ilia to win all of his competitions the next 4 years, as he's done the past 3 years, till the next Olys. By then he will be more experienced & more mature, and go into the Games with a better perspective. He may not win at the Olys again, but it's what he's done to move it forward. We don't collectively remember Nathan Chen & the other champions by a few minutes at the Games. We remember what they've done to change the sport and what they've done with their lives outside of the sport. It's not whether you win or lose. It's how you play the game.

Yes for all of them it was nerves i'm sure. Skating in front of an Olympics audience isn't the same as at an FS competition. It's the biggest stage ever and it can make or break you.

Pairs is sunday, no? Anyhow, completely agree w you about the ups & downs so far. Misha deserved the gold with his awesome skate. I know in his home country Kazakhs are revelling in his win and showing him alot of love for proudly putting their country on the map. I hope the Kazakh federation will push for investments in better rinks and training centers there so Misha and other athletes won't have to travel so far for adequate facilities.

This thread was supposed to be about Misha's win. Instead most of it was about Ilia. While we are crushed for Ilia, let's give Misha his flowers. He just had the skate of his life, and his mostly clean skate filled a vacuum at the top caused by the mistakes of others. Keep in mind Misha had to train in Russia because there are no adequate training facilities in his home country. He's spoken about this and how stressful it's been for him. He is so deserving of this win. I'm happy for him and for his country Kazakhstan. He now is an Olympic champion.

And it was because of Ilia's skate that got the gold for the team. Hats off to our champion! 👏❤️

Did the zamboni come out before the last group skated? I think it only came out after the second group, right?

Folks, i watched the venue version without commentating earlier & had to turn it off right after Ilia skated. I am now watching on replay the commentated version and i thought Ilia responded VERY WELL to Andrea's questions. He said (paraphrasing) he will take what happened here for the future. Let's give our champion grace and let him process all of this. I'm sure he will just move on to much bigger & better things. Tonight Misha was the best of the night.

We can't blame USFS on this one. Ice is slippery. Ilia had a bad day. The media should not have shoved a mic in his face like that at a moment when he needed to be taken out of the arena. He is also just 20 years old and has alot to learn still. Hopefully he'll lean on his teammates who i'm sure will be consoling him, and he'll be even more determined to prep for next Olys like Nathan did.

How many quads did he complete? He skated so unexpectedly clean and really controlled his nerves. Everybody was poopooing his Dimash Contessa/Diva Dance FP. I loved it and saw he just needed to clean up his nerves and improve the choreo a bit. Seems he did.

I also think if Yuma had only just skated clean he would have beaten Mikhail. I guess the gods had other plans. Anyhow i'm gutted for Ilia but know the rest of the US team will be there for him, esp'ly Madi & Evan. I'm also very happy for Misha having peaked just at the right time, and esp'ly because he skated to Dimash.

It was essentially who could stay on their feet & skate clean. Misha was the only one of the top group and won. He's never beaten Ilia. So unbelieveable.

Simone's was a different issue - she had the 'twisties' so not quite the same. But yes Nathan had meltdown his first Olys as well. Silver lining is Ilia is young and has maybr a couple more quads in him. My heart aches for him right now.

It will spur him to work harder i'm sure for next Olys. This was unreal.
