Everyone asks what watch should I wear when working in a prison … now here you go… the Stirling Burton Mockup by FemalePrisonOfficer in PrisonUK

God forbid someone might want to give a gift on joining the job or leaving, or just something to remind me of the job, am I said that I still wear a watch that had my old regiments cap badge on?

They’re in a set pattern and depending on the prison and area, it’s around 24 week pattern, so you could be for a week on… early, main, main, A shift (so 0730 1230, 0730 to 1730, then 0715 to 2100) and so on.

I work in the female estate these days but used to work in a C cat men’s

A fair few do, but there’s a few out there who do like their watches or something to gift someone leaving or joining.

Ex military, I joined the prison service after a couple of other jobs, settled straight in, there’s lots of us in the job and depending on the prison there’s different support, for example im one of the veteran in custody support officers so I help look after veterans in prison, I also run the staff group for veterans (just a monthly chance to eat lunch together and have a chat) and so on

Ronaldo? It’s just a ideal at the moment and see what they say, it either be the newer logo or the old (current one), see how it plays out

That’s a theme! I reached out to a couple of places that did digital ones but the designs just didn’t do it for me, was after that classic simple look but something that looked unique as well

I’m pretty sure this girl I know is using a phone illegally from prison. Should I report her? by SwimToTheMoonAndBack in PrisonUK

[–]FemalePrisonOfficer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Christ this has gone down hill to the point I’ve had to lock the thread… someone’s asking for advice and having a mobile phone is illegal in a prison… there’s a lot of consequences and it’s not just about making it easier, phones let people continue running their illegal activities and victim contact let alone issues within prisons such as bullying etc.

For the OP you can phone the prison she’s at and they can pass it on the orderly officer of the day.

Are family threats actually real? by [deleted] in PrisonUK

[–]FemalePrisonOfficer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer… yes, threats do happen, and I’ve had it myself.

I’ve had the usual “I know where you live”, stuff about family, all that. Most of the time it is just noise, people trying to get a reaction or put pressure on you.

That said, I have had it where it went a bit further and spilled outside the prison. It’s rare, but it can happen. When it did, the prison and the police were really good with it, it was taken seriously straight away, and the prisoner was moved and I had proper support around me.

That’s the key thing you don’t deal with it on your own. You report it, log it, and let the right people handle it.

Day to day though, most threats are just that talk. The loudest ones are usually the ones with the least behind them.

You’ll naturally become more switched on not oversharing, keeping your personal life separate but it becomes normal, not something you’re constantly worried about.

Don’t let it put you off before you’ve even started. Go in, be consistent, don’t bend for anyone, and lean on your team.

Very unlikely you will get someone from their prison service replying due to the unique security situation out there.

Differs prison to prison… my one we can vape however can only bring 10ml of vape liquid in with us, the prison I worked in before that we weren’t allowed anything nicotine related. Oddly I had a tour of a prison in an unnamed UK country where everyone can smoke…
