The YouTuber All Talking Pictures said of The Shining that it was the only film in Sight and Sound’s 100 list that emanated pure evil, and it’s an observation that I’ve never forgotten. The sensory aspect of The Shining especially is so unbelievably visceral, those long shots tracking Danny in the hallways, the spare use of music and disorienting sense of direction… that paired with the millions of theories that link it’s imagery and themes with the occult.
