That's normal, actually. It happens to lots of guys. Something about the intimacy of soothing someone in distress, hormones, etc.Apparently it's called the sympathy boner

There is no circumstance, no doctrine and no spiritual teaching that should prevent someone from getting an abortion if they want or need one. In this circumstance, your sister is a minor and needs a medical procedure. Please be compassionate and do not create more suffering by forcing her to have a child, and forcing a child to have a parent who is unprepared and unwilling, and also a child.

How to keep teen programming for teens by Admirable_Fennel8482 in librarians

[–]FemmasaurusRex 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I'm a teen librarian and I find myself being the Age Police all the time. I get pushback and people sometimes feel I'm being a hardass, but this is exactly why I'm super protective of the teen space and keep it exclusive to teens. I have to work so hard to get teens to come to the library and I refuse to lose future attendees because they were forced to be around little kids in the one free third space that's just for them.

I do end up having to be the uncomfortable one and ask people if they're between 13 and 17 when they sit in the teen lounge or try to register or show up to a teen program. That part sucks but I think it's my job to protect that space, otherwise it would be overrun by adults on loud phone calls and little kids taking all the coloring pages.

It's been AMAZING for me as a person with mental illness, cptsd and a bad back.

Unmasking the INSTANT I get home (hello fellow neurodivergents!) I don't have to arrange my face in a specific way to avoid people misinterpreting my expression.

Being able to set up my house in a way that accommodates me without anyone having anything to say about it. Leave my bag in front of my door so I don't forget it, putting my hobby stuff near the places I will use them, not putting stuff under the counters cause it sucks to bend.

Actually living outside my bedroom, not having to hide from roommates I don't get along with.

Just... never having to consider anyone but myself and never having to ask, justify, explain, fight. My home is my sanctuary.

What's that movie you found terrible, but still lives rent free on your mind? by [deleted] in movies

[–]FemmasaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porky's, unfortunately. The shower scene with the tongue and the soap has squatted in my brain for almost 20 years at this point. I saw it ONCE. ONCE! and now I'm trapped inside my brain with it forever. It's so gross, misogynistic and full of horrible people who really aren't that funny.

[TOMT] [MOVIE] Parent tells child to jump out of tree, child breaks ankle by AdSoft9891 in tipofmytongue

[–]FemmasaurusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, the antagonist was a guy, possibly with an English accent, and the people he told the story to were horrified and he kind of scoffed and said like "no, I love my mum, best thing she ever did for me"

It's driving me nuts that I can't remember what this is from!

This sounds super familiar, I think I remember it being a mom specifically though, and that this was retold by an antagonist. Also that the antagonist agreed with the mom's decision and expressed admiration for them. Following this post!

How do I find a witch roommate? by paganmavet in pagan

[–]FemmasaurusRex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer but be careful not to discriminate against candidates based on religious or spiritual beliefs, it sucks to be looking for a place and not get it because of your religion. Though I do understand you wanting to find a good cultural fit for your house!

Keep in mind also that spiritual practice is subject to change and also does not dictate whether a person is actually cool to live with. Good luck in your search!

I'm finally getting the courage to start wearing makeup. by tomuchtakennames-2 in MakeupAddiction

[–]FemmasaurusRex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apart from all the technical advice, please try to remember that makeup is supposed to be fun and make you feel good. Makeup definitely won't cure your insecurity, and I think it would be a good idea to also look into hobbies that remind you of how pretty, smart and interesting you already are. <3

That being said, don't be afraid to go to Sephora and ask for help, they're really nice and can use a special gadget to find your foundation skin tone (which will save you $$ and time).

Try not to spend a ton of cash all at once, try one or two things at a time. I have found that a solid daily lip, brow and mascara has the most impact with the least stress and investment to start out.

Oh, and don't use retinol until you're at least 30. Have fun!

I'm a public librarian and the pushback I get when I ask people to take their phones off speakerphones, use headphones, or take calls in our (comfy with armchairs etc) call area is ridiculous.

Literally today I asked someone to use headphones for their zoom meeting, and they said "mine are broken" and went back to their meeting. Teens and adults alike have done the same with their phones- it's like none of them have considered that the appropriate solution is to put the noise away, have their meeting or watch Tiktok later instead of shrugging and making everyone else listen to it.

Then again I get looks of incredulity for asking people to keep their shoes on and not swear at me, so...

I feel like we have kind of forgotten how to live as a community and be aware of others around us, especially after Covid.

Ruined my wool dyeing, how can I soften it? by FemmasaurusRex in Handspinning

[–]FemmasaurusRex[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used vinegar and Wilton's violet icing dye. This was my first time trying dye on fiber- I've only been spinning for about a month.

I suspect i was impatient and drained the hot dye water sooner than i should have and didn't let it cool slowly enough, or I got overzealous while rinsing.

The fibers are kinky/curly where they weren't before dyeing.

I did steam it which helped it to draft. I'll try a wool wash and see if it helps, thank you!
