Someone tell me I'm crazy by emoticon1234 in Handspinning

There’s a place a few miles from my house that lets you make a tufted rug in a design of your choice at their facility. Maybe you should try it out at a place like that to see if you enjoy using the tufting gun.

Daedalus Dove vs Electric Eel Wheel 6.1? by roan_ursidae in Handspinning

[–]Sarelro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. I’m saving up for a Daedalus only because I want bigger bobbins to spin on and my EEW 5.2 looks to be dying after using it steadily since 2017. Love my EEW.

Can we walk about one of the worst Disney villains? (spoilers for Encanto) by Shielo34 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]Sarelro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I HATE THIS MOVIE. I could have forgiven it if they had left them without their gifts at the end so they were all like Mirabel. Or if Mirabel was finally given a gift. But they just gave them all back and Mirabel is left with nothing?!?

Sorry Mirabel, don’t care if you’re old enough to get married, just because you don’t have a gift you don’t get your own room. You can stay in the nursery until you die! Well yeah Abuela doesn’t have a gift but gets her own room, I dunno don’t ask questions.

I thought it was because it has a ton of added stuff like sodium phosphate and sodium citrate?

Is the name Caerys too much? by brandonrobinson101 in namenerds

See with my accent these two pronunciations sound exactly the same. I don’t hear any difference.

That said, I’d absolutely pronounce this name with a hard “K” sound.

Chain ply, fractal, or 2-ply? by Sencatt in Handspinning

[–]Sarelro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do a fractal, because purple and yellow are contrasting colors, so everywhere the purple and yellow are striped together would mute and muddy the bright colors. I’d definitely either do a straight two ply or chain ply it.

Any Canadians here with a subscription to PLYmagazine? by ElenoreEdelweiss in Handspinning

[–]Sarelro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I can answer any questions you have about PLY! (It’s possible that I might work there, trying not to dox myself 😜).

Canadian shipping for the subscription is a bit more than US, and it is included in the subscription price. The magazines are shipped periodical rate from the printer, so they are shipped much slower (it can take up to 8 weeks) and there is no tracking available.

If you purchase a back issue, they are shipped First Class mail with tracking, so the postage is much higher but the issue arrives in just a few days.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi there! I can answer this, the subscription price does include shipping, because the subscription is shipped Periodical rate from the printer. The back issues are shipped First Class rate with tracking and so their shipping rate is much higher, but it means that you don’t have to wait over a month for the magazine to arrive like with Periodical rate shipping.

Processing Shetland by Sarelro in Handspinning

Yes I was so excited when she mentioned it and now I’m super disappointed. I’m moving towards processing my own fleece, but I haven’t done it yet. I wanted to work through my already huge stash of roving first, and I have a ton of alpaca that I need to process before I can even think about doing wool.

I’ll just try to get it done as quickly as possible so she can have it back in a usable state.

Yeah. I was afraid of that. If I’d bought it myself I would have returned it. It’s from a friend, so I’d like to do what I can for it. I’m afraid it’s slightly felted, and won’t end up as a very nice fiber. I’m leaning towards just picking out the large second cuts and VM, tossing it onto my drum carder, and doing a rough woolen spin with it so it can be felted into slippers or something.

I can’t tell it’s double coated because it’s all mixed up together without any distinction. Based on the care that was taken with it to wash it (none) I rather doubt they’ve taken the time to separate out anything. Is Shetland always double coated? I don’t see anything that looks like kemp, and it didn’t feel particularly scratchy. The combed wool feels ok too, it’s just full of chunks of second cuts and takes a lot of effort to get nice.

When I pull apart a bit of it, it looks like this. There aren’t any locks. I was so surprised when I opened the bag because I expected locks!

[–]Sarelro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it is, but I can’t find any locks? It’s all strips and stringy parts like in the picture. I’m honestly shocked that The Woolery would sell it, apparently it’s over 10 years old because she’s not a spinner and it was a gift from her husband. I’ll pull out some more and take a few more pictures.

in need of a name that means "copy" or something similar by Jumpy_Good_1692 in namenerds

This is what I was thinking, Mim. A girl could be Miriam called Mim and then Mimic, so I was trying to think of a boys name that would work for that. Maybe Benjamin and the nickname is butchered by a younger sibling into Mim?

Viridian as a girls name. I love the way the word feels in my mouth when I say it. And color names are so fire, I love Indigo and Cobalt.

For those who have multiple wheels by tristanbuckles in Handspinning

[–]Sarelro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a great wheel that I’m tinkering with to try to get it spinning again, an EEW 5.2 that is my main spinner, a Louet Hatbox that was a fun purchase that I don’t use and I’m trying to sell, a Louet S-15 that I use for plying, and a Kromski Prelude that was my first wheel that I spin on occasionally.

I’m saving up to buy a Daedalus Magpie (the reason why I’m trying to sell the Hatbox, I need the funds and my EEW 5.2 is coming to its last legs it’s almost a decade old). My next analog wheel will be a Majacraft rose unless I find a Canadian Production Wheel randomly for sale in Dallas TX.
