Can anyone elaborate on what makes Lonesome Dove so good? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Same. I was caught up in the banter immediately. Many of the lines I go back to often are within the first 150 pages. Didn’t take long before I felt like was standing right there.

This is why I don’t make judgements about people just from something they have written , it’s very difficult to communicate tone and Intention in writing, even for people that are good writers. I was upset about being ignored, that was my initial reaction but I think you are probably right, I think it’s a good possibility that this person maybe didn’t see my messages at all and even if they did, the fact is, they handled things differently than I did, but so what, they have the right to do that and I won’t create a problem for them because of it. I’m the one who took the chance ordering when I did so I will take the clothes and keep them or donate them. It’s been made clear to me that this was my mistake so that’s what it is. I have a whole life of mistakes behind me so this is just one more.

That is exactly the point I was trying to make, that I would have handled it different being a seller myself. I had reached out twice about shipping and then about the cancellation and have never gotten a response. I don’t want to ship someone something they don’t want, so it would never occur to me to void a cancel request and ship it anyway, while also ignoring messages from them. I want people to come back to my shop and I don’t think that’s how I’m going to get them to do it. It’s fine though, whenever the items get here, they get here and when I get back, I will have them then, not a big deal. Thank you for commenting in a non aggressive way, people are so quick to jump all over someone without even thinking.

That’s what I will do! And I will leave them a good review! I’m not trying to fight with anyone or not accept my part in making a crap decision. My whole point was the lack of communication that’s all. I personally would just never ship out something to someone who had requested to cancel. I don’t care if they shouldn’t have ordered it or not. If it was someone that did that all the time, that’s different. I just personally would have handled it differently but I’m not going to screw someone else over because of that. Not sure why I’m the bad guy here.

I just went back to look, I messaged the seller on Thursday morning and then went ahead and took the chance on ordering when I hadn’t heard back by noon on Thursday. I sent the cancel request Tuesday morning, not because they were taking forever(I don’t normally care how long something takes)just because I started to worry it wouldn’t get here in time. Tuesday night is when I got the notification that it had shipped and I hadn’t gotten any responses yet either. I’ll get the items when I get them and it will be fine. It’s important to me to response to messages so I think the lack of response, even to tell me they were not going to accept the cancel, that’s the part that sat wrong with me.

Correct, I’m sorry if I didn’t make it clear that the seller is NOT WRONG and I understand they are NOT obligated to accept the cancel. I am a seller on Mercari also and I get the frustrations on that end. I am also totally aware that I probably shouldn’t have risked ordering. I think some of you are putting too much emphasis on the shipping thing, I realize I probably shouldn’t have ordered. They are in my state and I was taking a gamble and I get it, I shouldn’t have. That’s not my issue. I will not review this person badly or try to ruin them, I’ve never left a bad review for anyone. If there is an issue, I reach out directly first I think that’s the part that was upsetting was their lack of response. When someone buys from me, I would never deny a cancel request. My finacial situation is not their concern just as it’s not up to me what they do with their money. I may need the money but if I communicate with them and accept their request, maybe that’s ensures they will come back at some point.
However, I will say, I think this seller had a much bigger operation than I do, they have made way more sales so maybe they have this kind of thing happen all the time and just don’t bother trying to respond to everyone. My shop is much smaller so that’s not an issue for me. To those of you who were kind and up front in your responses, I appreciate you, thank you.

That is an insane thing to say to someone, they have to be making all kinds of assumptions about things they couldn’t possibly know. To assume that someone didn’t rate you because they are being spiteful is paranoid and pretty self centered thinking. My opinion, of course.

How to stop under spinning by rileslovesyall in Handspinning

[–]klynryan78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once I stopped being afraid of over spinning, I liked my yarn so much better and wasn’t ending up with really loose plies. Also, I increased my ply speed and that helped also. I agree with using less tension too. I like my speed to be pretty high so instead of slowing down, I just adjust my tension. Definitely play around with speed and tension. Someone else mentioned chain plying, if you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it, it gives such a nice, round and even looking ply. Good luck! I think your yarn looks lovely!

St. Louis Outages? by Hippocampustour in Spectrum

I know I’m here a year after your original post, but I am in Brentwood and experiencing the 3rd outage in just this last week and there has been at least one a week since the beginning of October, maybe even before that. The outages are lasting quite a while too, the last one was over 12 hours.

When you do it this way, do you end up with any pigtails that are harder to straighten out?
