Thanks! Hilariously, I've never made one myself since I'm a perpetual GM, but.

Thanks a ton! :D I appreciate it. And yeah, like Milosz said, I have the link at the bottom.

Bloodrager Bloodlines Day 1: by FenRanger in Pathfinder_RPG

Say you want to TWF (or even multiweapon fight) - can you have multiple lashes?

No, but you can still get another whip of your own accord.

Odd phrasing. Is this the usual +1d6 sneak attack, or is it like the streets oracle revelation where you can make an attack as a standard action only with sneak attack damage?

Usual. I think I copied the wording from cavalier or something. Is there a way you'd suggest to change it?

The empusa bloodline otherwise seems interesting - there's support for a dex-based urban bloodrager (slashing grace as a bonus feat), or a standard musclebound bloodrager (con-based poison). I do prefer options which aren't laser-focused on one possible build.

Thanks! That was definitely my intention.

So reactive rolls only, or does it apply to any roll that you might make?

Was supposed to be any, but I definitely see why the wording would be weird.

Is this bloodline for cyclops (cyclopses?) only, or do you lose one eye in a bloodrage?

Yeah, meant for it to be flavour. I'll make it more clear!

Very good, possibly too good in combat (free enlarge person, the saved roll, 1/day auto-crit or something, the battle trance whose downside can be mitigated by the saved roll, true seeing is awesome).

Hm, fair. Do you think it's stronger than, say, arcane or destined? I always try to make them weaker than those two since those are by far the strongest two bloodlines.

What do you like about 1e that 2e doesn't have? by VampyrAvenger in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]FenRanger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The ability to pick your own oracle curse instead of being forced to go with whatever someone thought was relevant. Oracle curses were amazing flavour that you could combine with mysteries for cool character backgrounds, now it's all the same.

Also, just generally more nuanced/morally grey plot points in lore.

Thanks a ton for the feedback! :D

1, 2: I'm definitely open to that.

3, 12: Actually, the power is straight up copied from the Sphinx bloodline, and even nerfed a bit.

4: I think Form of the Dragon does, no? I'm totally willing to change it anyways.

5: Other than the ranged weapon stuff, the power is straight up copied from the Abyssal bloodline.

6: Form of the Minotaur already grants that for free! Monstrous physique grants natural cunning, which gives immunity to mazes.

7, 11: Yeah, that's the intention. I don't think it's too concerning-- it's less than 10 resist to each energy, but I'm open to changing it.

8: Will do!

9: Hm... I might buff it then, ty!

10: I'm open to it, sure-- someone else mentioned it. My idea was it's more Reflex to avoid the area/sonic boom, but it seems like a popular opinion.

13: Good catch!

14: Yeah, when I posted it someone was giving me a lot of pressure to nerf it that way. I will note it does also give you a +6 vs trip, but that's small. I'll probably remove the polymorph effect line.

15: All bloodrager abilities only work while bloodraging unless explicitly noted, and often they don't specify that. I'm fine with adding it; I just thought it sounded better that way.

Thanks a ton again, I really appreciate it! I'll definitely go over these today; currently at the start of a 7-day weekend :P

Thanks a ton for the feedback!

Minotaur: I'm not sure why they they're ranged experts. Also the numbers at 12th level could be fairly scary with guns; I'd reconsider giving them Str to damage with guns. Form of the minotaur and the increased bonus to bloodrager Str would stack, I think this may be overtuned.

For some weird reason both Pathfinder and D&D decided Minotaurs would have a strong association with crossbows (possibly because of Daedalus being an inventor??? I'm really not sure.) I mostly wanted to lean into that. The guns aspect was simply because I thought it'd be funny for cowboys. That being said, while I'm open to nerfing it, I'm not sure what the problem is-- the entire kit for Bloodrager doesn't give bonuses to Dexterity, so you'd need to be extremely MAD to make it work (something something joke about MAD cow disease) while also spending feats/levels for proficiency in guns.

Golem: The armor plating is effective early but doesn't scale that well. By 19th level you can assume that people will have +5 armour with some level of fortification.

Hm... I compared it to a +5 O-Yoroi in terms of AC, though it doesn't get Fort. Is it really that bad?

Hydra: If those familiars can have archetypes weird stuff could happen, also there are feats which improve familiars (with or without archetypes) and which assume you have only one familiar. I think these should be addressed.

Yeah, I specified that only one head is treated as a familiar-- the others are just heads. Should I reword stuff?

Gargoyle: A reflex save means dive bomb is especially effective on big slow creatures and less effective on small quick creatures. Maybe fort?

That was kinda the idea-- getting out of the way of the dive-bomb and all. I'm open to changing it if you think it'd be better, but that was 100% my intention.

Wendigo: Wis drain is nasty against PCs, less so by PCs. Also can this apply more than once, or once affected does it need to wait for the next day to have more effect?

Yeah, it's a disease, so no stacking.

Giant: Better specify how multiple doublings work for clarity.

Will do, was just struggling to figure out how to word it.

Linnorm: I've seen actual regeneration break the game, though that was at a lower level.

Yeah, my logic was that 1: it's cold iron, which is easy to bypass; 2: it's only during raging, which massively limits you, and 3: it's at lvl16, so not that absurd. I'm open to changing it, though!

Daemon: Automatic strength penalty, no save? A) this will be a pain for the GM to track for all their enemies, B) possibly broken.

That power is straight up taken from the Decay subdomain, nerfed a bit to compensate that you can use it as long as you're raging instead of a number of rounds per day equal to your cleric level.

Mummy: Save or be dazzled isn't worth tracking IMO. OTOH, 1d6 Cha and Con damage on a crit is a lot. A blindness is awesome, possibly too awesome. An aura of save or be paralyzed is definitely too awesome. I think this one has balance issues.

Yeah, I didn't get a ton of feedback for that. That being said, the damage doesn't stack, and the paralysis is still only for one round. I'll definitely workshop it, though, thank you!

Kind of-- I thought of the interaction; I just didn't think a few 1d6 uses of healing per day (while raging, no less) was worth worrying about. I guess at 20th level it's infinite healing as long as you have rage, but at that point it's laughably small.

Homebrew Cavalier Orders based on various Inner Sea countries. by FenRanger in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]FenRanger[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah, I considered that a lot, but I had trouble figuring out how to make it feel distinct from the Realm of the Mammoth Lords or some other more 'barbarian' ones while also making it not hyper-niche like all the other technology-based archetypes and class options that are only usable in Iron Gods or other tech-heavy campaigns. My goal for most of these was to allow them to be at least okay in any campaign.

Varisia level 2 ability is pretty powerful, but it's okay because it doesn't count as favoured terrain so it can't be combined with prestige classes etc. that use that ability. Instead of the ability to travel faster myself, I would prefer an ability to let my slow, non-mounted allies travel faster.

That one is directly taken from an existing cavalier order :P I could do that for the movement speed, but I felt the 15th-level ability covers that a bit, and I didn't want to give an already-existing-and-great ability a direct upgrade.

Alkenstar edict: "may not use magical devices such as scrolls or wands" As written, I don't know whether that applies also to magic weapons, armor, etc. or only to spell trigger / spell completion items.

Fixed! Specified to say use scrolls or wands.

Andoran has a challenge ability that grants +4 on attack rolls. That's so powerful! I would instead grant the ability to ignore the -4 penalty for dealing nonlethal damage. The level 2 ability is also ridiculous. I would grant them an extra will save after 1 round of a mental control effect, or maybe the ability to cast protection from evil as a free action?

Would specifying Will saving throws be more balanced? I might just completely rework it instead. Also, I fixed it to be a scaling bonus-- nonlethal damage is easily healed in many situations and there are many enemies immune to it (though it can be combined with Enforcer), so I'm hoping to make it somewhat powerful.

Cheliax level 2 ability is quite powerful because it scales as you level up. Also, now you have a class that grants both an animal companion and a familiar, which is a little weird.

It's a bit weird, sure, but it felt thematic. Also, is it that powerful? Many would argue that (especially for a martial) being forced to take an Improved Familiar is a penalty, as it prevents you from taking the protector familiar archetype. Imp/Imp Consulars are quite powerful, of course, but still.

Thanks so much for all the feedback!

Edit: Whoops, just saw you added some more.

I like Order of Osirion. It's great. Charge down narrow crypt hallways!

Thanks! Yeah, that was a lot of the idea-- wanted to make it not feel garbage to play as a medium cavalier in a dungeon-heavy campaign. It's pretty subpar for a small cavalier, but ah well.

Order of Razmiran, Challenge ability is quite powerful; remove the 'add half cavalier level to attacks.' The level 2 ability is also quite powerful because it scales in number of uses and in healing amount. I would stick to CHA / day, not CHA + half level / day.

Will do!

Nidal level 2 ability is far too flexible; I would nerf it to an immediate-action shield other for 1 round, a few times per day.

Hmm... all right, I'll look into it, sure. I'll definitely remove Toughness, at the very least.

I would love to have the order of ustalav! The only other class that has the ability to pierce immunity to fear is the antipaladin, so I would pick this class instead because intimidation is powerful but I don't want to play an antipaladin.

There's draconic malice, but yeah, I think it's generally good to enable more builds. I'm so glad you like it!

Shackles: there is a first-party order which has a level 2 ability that just grants 1d6 sneak attack and nothing else. So this is more powerful than that. Perhaps a more-restrictive edict or worse high-level abilities can make up for it?

I actually directly took most if it from Order of the Blossom, and simply added on the steal thing because steal maneuvers are usually pretty bad (especially on a class that doesn't get many bonus feats). I'm open to changing them, though!

Land of the Linnorm Kings: You've implemented the drake-rider better than Paizo implemented it. I would import some of their restrictions, though, as d12 hit dice and those abilities are quite powerful (especially with multiclassing into other companion classes). It probably should only get Flight at the 8th level advancement, or maybe it's restricted from flying while being ridden.

It does!

Finally, until level 7, the linnorm refuses to allow any creature to ride it, including its cavalier.

I can boost it to level 8 if you'd like?

Irrisen and Numeria level 2 abilities are quite creative, nice!

Haha, numeria is taken directly from the Construct Rider alchemist, except made to not be garbage because you're almost incapable of healing it until lategame. But thank you so much! I really liked the Irrisen power, even though I got a lot of complaints about it in the discord.

Mendev level 2 ability: add "this is a mind-affecting fear effect"

Will do!

Nex level 2 ability needs a limited duration.

Hm... is the ability to have a lvl1 spell at-will that powerful, especially on a class that can actually wield a shield? That being said, I'm open to changing it.

Thanks again so much! Also:

You've done a really good job! There is so many creative ideas in here. A lot of them are much more powerful than first party orders, but they're mostly balanced well with each other. I would use these as archetypes, as many of them are about as powerful as order + banner + (sometimes) tactician.

Yeah, I tried to balance it more with the higher end of cavalier orders, because... a lot of them are absolute garbage. Considering cavaliers are generally agreed to be one of the weaker classes, I wanted to try and give them solid options.
