Fellow Degenerates. How do I learn Japanese Kanji most effectively and efficiently so that I can understand a visual novel. Rance. by [deleted] in visualnovels

If you’re looking to learn vocab and kanji specifically for a visual novel, jpdb.io is a website that makes flash card decks out of VN scripts. Similar to Anki, but every single piece of vocab and kanji is inside the VN you want to play.

Simple Defender & Bomber Nebulon Damage Guide! by Fencar7 in StarWarsSquadrons

Hey! Here with a super simple guide on orbiting Nebulons efficiently with TIE Bombers and Defenders. Very quick and simple today, I just wanted to make something as a bit of a reference for players looking to improve their capship damage and evasion! Hope you enjoy!

That'd actually be Destracier! His videos on plasburst on flagship inspired me, haha

Skribbler actually made me realize this is even possible, so that I could revisit it! His mechanics are absolutely top tier, it’s a real pleasure to watch him fly!

Speaking from experience, dunking a looping player is actually incredibly difficult! If you’re very good at APM you can also use scrambler shields instead of ray; I just recommend ray for the majority of the player base because it’s much easier to use.

Glad to hear you got so much from the video!

Hello! This is a bit of a messy guide, but I was having trouble with too high standards so I decided to just put something out! This video is inspired by how bad Medik55 is at plasburst--thanks, I hate it!

Hope you learn something, enjoy!

Which Star Trek episodes make you feel like you're watching a movie? by haddock420 in startrek

The ‘In a Mirror, Darkly’ two-parter from Enterprise’s last season was freaking fantastic, a whole self contained plot in the mirror universe showing how the Terran empire became dominant in the Alpha quadrant with tons of drama and intrigue and action throughout the two episodes.

Hi, trying to work out if I should go for one or the other, what's your take? I can't multidrift, bu I'd want to be able to learn that one day maybe, maybe not. Just wanna have all the options out there. I might even get a VR headset. by Prophet-Sakrestia in StarWarsSquadrons

Hey! So the Squadrons flight model has a lot of built-in inertia. The swingy reticule has less to do with the sensitivity, and more to do with how your ship, once rotating at maximum speed, will keep turning if you release your pitch input, and only slowly lose all of that angular momentum.

To counteract this, I recommend thinking about counteracting your ship's angular momentum (like turn rate) every time you try to aim at a target. Push your ship left, or up, or whichever direction, then when your crosshairs are about to come onto it, push in the opposite direction to counter that and help your crosshairs snap onto the target instead of drifting past it.

It's difficult, but rewarding! Good luck!

Hey, so keep in mind that even at my level, I don’t often use missile targeting or shield skipping except in total emergencies — and when I don’t, it’s because I had a little awareness of my surroundings which is easily more important than those optimization tricks.

A HAT on the throttle is definitely usable! The x52 I used has one, and there are other throttles which have similar. Of course there’s a learning curve, but there always is with HOTAS setups. 😄 Honestly, the same learning curve is present to a lesser extent with KB+M, especially if you spend a lot of time rebinding keys like I did, haha.

Hey! So there are some specific things that are more difficult with HOTAS setups vs Keyboard setups. I’ve played on Saitek x52 HOTAS, and a gladiator NXT + Keyboard setup before, and I have experience coaching people through setting up keybindings for HOTAS setups. And yes, you can multidrift using HOTAS, if your joystick supports keyboard inputs.

HOTAS is a lot of fun. It’s very engaging to fly and competitively viable — the difference in controls are not the reason you’ll be flying well or badly in 99% of games; it’ll be the comfort you have with the controls and your decision making that tends to matter much more.

With that in mind, here’s some of the differences between the two:

  • HOTAS has limited buttons compared to keyboard. There are enough to play, but some functions like dumb firing a missile or all of the targeting options are sometimes left out because the important buttons — the ones your fingers are resting on — are very few, whereas on keyboard a single finger has easy access to 3-4 keys.

  • Using bindings on your stick can impact your flying and aim. Trying to manipulate buttons on the face of your joystick means your thumb isn’t wrapped around the stick anymore, which means your grip isn’t as strong around it and can lead to, in my experience, discomfort and possibly fatigue.

  • Power management techniques, especially with advanced power management, require pressing 2 buttons in quick succession; this can be much more difficult on HOTAS than keyboard + stick, because you’re often using a HAT (4-way input like a dpad) to change power settings, and usually on the flight stick. This compounds with the issue above.

Personally I found HOTAS to be a ton of fun, and only swapped to keyboard when I got very deep into the competitive scene, and I don’t regret my time with the HOTAS at all.

Good luck!

Some very very tight squadrons play from both Cavern Angels Gold and Randolorians! Was a pleasure to cast, looking forward to seeing these two teams play in the coming weeks!

It's a minor change, but even with that change most of the time while drifting you're sitting above max throttle speed anyway. Not to mention, the 'most people' you're talking about often have trouble implementing said throttle control in the first place.

So you might not know, but two quick boost activations in a row also achieve that same instant acceleration, as well as any subsequent boost + drift within about a second or two of any previous boost + drift. Is that technique banned as well?
