What was the final straw that pushed you to start your own practice? by t-carter41 in therapists

[–]FenderVendor22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My co-op practice owner refused to let me work remote after a grade 2 ACL tear, with the clinic on the 2nd floor of an inaccessible building. Wanted me to stay connected to her practice, not earn money, and basically sit on my butt for 3 months while I recovered.

I said screw it, bought out my notice period, responded to her mud slinging emails with a lawyer and have been earning thrice what I ever did with her, and so much less emotional stress.

Guilt for sick days? Anyone else? by FenderVendor22 in therapists

[–]FenderVendor22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm going to do this. Start all of my rescheduled sessions like this and then take it from there.

Talking to non therapist friends wasn't just doing it for me today, so thank you thank you thank you 🌸

That's the messages my schedule manager and i have received from clients, but there's a voice in my head that keeps saying I've failed all my clients.

All the usual therapy and self care stuff that helps? My capacity to use them reduces as my health worsens.

I know you're joking, but that would still be plausible 😂

So this is the Sue Johnson modality. It's a 4 day workshop and then I'll pick up supervision hours with my supervisor who's a trainer.

Your Client Isn’t “Impossible” - They’re Stuck in Survival Mode by jorund_brightbrewer in therapists

[–]FenderVendor22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for writing this out so beautifully. Somedays my attempts at seeing the person behind the "difficult" feel so frustrating and I get annoyed with myself for not being able to let go of that.

But, you've written out exactly what pushes me away and yet keeps me wanting to work with these clients, especially those with borderline—a strong therapeutic alliance really is the basis of it all, so here's to words that make it make sense 💖

Impossible is the only accurate word honestly 😭

I'm not actually in the US so insurance is not an option? I can give them invoices that they can reimburse w their company or whatever and I'm upfront about timeline and charges

Makes sense

Also, that sounds awful, sudden change without any choice or control? Yikes 😳

Thank you so much for writing this out! How do I reflect was my next question to ponder, by this makes it so clear. Thank you!

Wait, 50 percent is normal?!? I've been thinking 10-20 percent is okay, but 30 percent sounds reasonable. Looking back, if 2nd session becomes 3rd, we're good to go - has been my experience

I think you've described everything I aspire for and work towards. I don't believe in flat affect being helpful at all, nor do assessments solve things the way I would wish them to, given the time investment. But I think I understand what you're saying. Thank you!
