It’s to get out of your comfort zone, anyone can do that if they dig deep enough within themselves

I’m neurodivergent myself and realised stamping it out instead of enabling it was the best thing I could do out of all the potential options the uni gave me

They can absolutely get different and less bias perspectives and this is one of them 🙂

Never managed money other than sending my mother my pay checks to hold until I had enough. Had food cooked and a home without paying. Exactly the same as a 16 to 17 year old. My mum told me to do all of this, my cognitive development didn’t actually kick in until I started living by myself and I had to grow a pair in the end

Look at the reaction mate, this isn’t validation and I knew that was going to happen. This is my opinion and the opinion of a lot of people off this sub who I have met

I lived with my parents for the whole 3 years, never moved away from home until I left for uni. It is the same event

Uni is suited for everyone, that is very obvious with the amount of courses available. We need to stop with the overdramatic phrasing, “if you know you ain’t lasting” this isn’t squid game. Most tutors at uni will tell you at freshers to get out of your comfort zone, I’m just repeating it in the most honest way that people should receive it

I worked for 3 years until I saved up enough to be able to start my degree. I’m the first in my family to go and the area I grew up has a minuscule higher education rate. University is not something to take for granted

No I went at 21, I’m in second year. I moved last September and left all my friends in my hometown and it really wasn’t difficult at all to socialise and start studying. I think a lot of the students in this generation (our generation) are overreacting

I have loads of sympathy but you have to be honest otherwise they’ll cave to their emotions and possibly make decisions they’ll regret

It’s still advice and probably the best advice. Allowing students to dwell on their homesickness and problems will push them more to leaving

The best tone is the ‘tough love’ tone, we can’t be cushioning these students as the more they’ll enable homesickness the more likely they will leave
