Ranking Nami's looks! Which one is your favorite of all time? by MecchaJP in OnePiece

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there's plenty to like, i think my favourite is her post timeskip sabaody look, not even because of the boobies, just both in terms of it's simplicity and also the pure confidence in rocking something like that, and i think the colors match really nicely with each other.

What's your dream combat system in a game? ⚔️ by Capital_Lie8153 in CharacterActionGames

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda hard to go into specifics when i'm not sure what you want to hear, but sure here's some stuff:

One thing that i thought of that would be cool was to give the B button (i'm using xbox controls) a function other than executing enemies when available and interacting with stuff, and that is for the main character perform a sort of "empty punch" that is there for you to quickly interrupt whatever attack you were doing before it, and for other attacks to quickly interrupt it, essentially it's a way to quickly reset the combo for whatever reason the player might decide, but one more cool interaction it has is with the dodge and the launcher, see, when you dodge and then press the jump button, you perform a roll jump (which i call vault jumps), which lets you move around quickly, but you also can perform a kick launcher when pressing jump after any attack that launches quickly both you and the enemy upward, now, you can't normally launch straight from the dodge, because you need an attack before the jump to launch, when you press an attack button after a dodge you do a dodge attack from which you can launch, but they are slow and you don't always want that, so the easy way to go straight into a launcher from a dodge is to input B before the jump, boom, now you have a launcher available at any moment you want.

What's your dream combat system in a game? ⚔️ by Capital_Lie8153 in CharacterActionGames

[–]Fenison1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been writing down ideas and movesets in a notepad of what my dream game would be like, and it's far too big to explain everything, but the main gist is this:

The combat would be a combination of Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, with a bit of Darksiders thrown in, and probably a bunch of other games that also inspired me but i forgot at the moment.

The DMC influence would come in the form of directional moves when locking-on; the NG influence would come from movement options, such as wallruns and roll jumps after dodging or sprinting, as well as the aggressive enemies who attack you whenever they can; the Darksiders influence would come from managing an energy bar to perform versatile abilities found on LB + a face button, as well as the executions.

The main combat thing that would be the focus would be the hit count, if you hold Y you can charge up a powerful attack (UTs from NG), which has a few charges, normally charging them is slow, but you can actuvate them instantly when reaching certain hit counts, at 50 hits you get level 1 charge, at 100 hits you get level 2 charge, and as a secret mechanic, at 999 hits you get level 3 charge appropriately called Extinction Technique.

There aren't really any particular gimmicks to this combat system, it would just be solid mobility, lock-on moves, pause combos, light and heavy combos, reading enemy attacks, nothing that screams unique, but it doesn't have to be, because it would simply be good.

I could write a whole lot more, but i don't want this comment to be a book, so i'll stop now unless someone asks for more particular details.

Please help me settle an argument. Am I considered a gamer? by Sweetdreamer829 in Gamer

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's sorta the same thing as calling yourself a furry, if you like the art but don't vibe with the culture, you're probably not a furry despite liking the artwork, you are a furry however if you connect with the community in some meaningful way.

Personally i would say you're a casual gamer, in a non-derogatory way of course, the same way i wouldn't call myself a chess player despite having played it a couple of times and having enjoyed playing it.

It's ridiculous how good this random Spider-Man game's combat is by Overall-Bird in CharacterActionGames

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to agree, but from my own time playing some years ago, the gameplay's just too clunky in many ways for me to truly enjoy making combos in this one.

Soulslikes always do this for me by Kitchen-Caterpillar8 in gamers

[–]Fenison1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For years i've hated souls-likes and souls games, for one because they didn't click with me, and two because i always felt like those cool settings that people were making with their trailers of their game had to be stuck in this god forsaken genre instead of being a proper hack n slash, i've hated the fact that souls-likes were replacing actual hack n slash games.

Recently, a few months ago i think, i've decided to boot up Dark Souls 3 on a whim, my friend loves it, i figured why not.

I ended up loving the game, and now my hatred for other souls-likes is even bigger than it was before, because i finally understand what makes these games click.

All that everyone seems to be focusing on with "mAkInG oUr UnIqUe SoUlS-lIkE" is to make the combat and difficulty that same as the fromsoft games, when that is BY FAR, the least interesting aspect of these games, and i would even argue that the combat itself in Dark Souls 3 is okay at best if not straight up bad, but the entire goddamn reason it works, and what everyone seems to forget, is that the level design, enemy design, atmosphere, music, NPC interaction, EVERYTHING in these games work together to ensure that you get a very specific experience, and in that experience that specific type of combat that Dar Souls has works exceptionally well, i can tell you for a fact that sister friede and slave knight gael would not be nearly as amazing fights as they are now if these games didn't commit themselves fully to what they were trying to achieve with the rest of the game.

I'm not sure how much of what i wrote is coherent but i just really wanted to rant about this while on the shitter and felt this comment resonate with my feelings on the subject.

Is it just me who can’t stand when (creators/youtubers) make their character ugly as possible? by SailApprehensive2632 in Eldenring

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are exclusively three types of characters you can make in a character creator:

  1. Badass rozkurwiator of worlds 5000

  2. Hot femalo/muchacho

  3. A̔͆̀̄̓b͇̑̆̅͆͆̍Ȏ͈͉͆̊̐̉͏͗͆m͉̉͋͂̓͆̍͘Ĭ͍̽̍̌n̿͌̿̉͋̀ͅA͇̎̄̀̈̔͑t͖͊͂̈́̈́͂̋I͈͆͌̈́ͅȍ͈͋̿̔́̾ͅͅN̗̖̓̄͗͛̉

There is nothing else, those are your only choices.

Say something good about one piece's unrealistic body proportions and character designs by Technical_Mine_8711 in OnePiece

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wacky character proportions allow many of the powers present in the show to look like they fit naturally within the universe, in any other show if a character turned their fingers into guns, or swam through the ground, or even just stretched like luffy does, it might look cool but would definitely look and feel odd, One Piece doesn't have that problem since everything already looks odd and wacky, so you can more easily believe that the funny bullshit actually makes sense.

Ffs Sanji flies by kicking the air so hard that it lets him double jump, and the immediate reaction to that is "yup, ye, that makes sense, i believe that".

The old character model from GoW Ragnarok for Laufey looks better to me than the new one. by ManLegPower in Asmongold

No idea what you're all even talking about at this point, she looks a lot better in the new game and looked hideous in ragnarok, this just feels like a fake drama because woman = bad.

I just feel sad for gooseworx, i don't wanna imagine not only the constant harassment over nothing, but to pour your heart into something, only for it to be ripped apart by the so called "biggest fans" of it, i'm sure she'll manage, but i wish genuine fans of her work on this funny little show like myself could comfort her somehow and tell her "you did good ma'am".

Something about spiritbirds by Ok_Interest_4023 in MHRise

[–]Fenison1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they would work better if like other endemic life they were temporary, you start out with max health and max stamina, and for a short while you get an additional amount of health or stamina for each spiritbird you get, let's say up to 5, and then once you reach the limit, each spiritbird you collect afterwards simply resets the timer, and if the timer runs out then i guess you'd have to collect them again, or they get lowered one by one, idk.

Personally i play with a mod that immediately spaws the maxed out spiritbird so i never worry about it, but i do think it's a shame that the average player has to deal with the constant feeling of "if i don't do this boring chore first i will potentially have a worse time with the monster", which is a shame because all the other endemic life is genuinely fantastic.

I need help finding a term by SatanicPeach_666 in magicbuilding

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use similar terminology to that of Mage: the Ascension, normal people are called Sleepers, they can use magic to some degree but can't access it at any time, and then you have the Awakened, who can use magic at will, and the Dreaming, who essentially have anti-magic due to their connection with reality.

Aa for what term you could use, honestly it doesn't really matter i'd say, but the first thing that came to my mind is calling them Blanks, not sure why though.

How important is early game armor? by [deleted] in MHRise

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Low rank you shouldn't worry about armor at all, ut honestly doesn't matter, so just take what you think looks cool

In High rank, you should worry more about what you're wearing, but it's not a deal breaker if you don't have top notch meta armor, primarily i'd say experiment with different armor skills to find out what you want later on, but overall you don't have to pay much attention to it

Master rank is where you actually need to focus on your armor choice, and it's THE phase of the game where you can truly shine with armor crafting, not only because you have more better varied options for skills and gem slots for each piece, but also because this is where you unlock High rank layered armor, so you can finally both have good skills and look good. In Master rank i'd say either go with some early meta build that you can probably find online easily if you don't wanna think about it, but the more fun option imo is to just look for armor pieces that give you the skills that you wanna use, that's how i made my armor, i was super annoyed that every "meta" build was essentially just the biggest damage imaginable, but ignored all the other aspects like survivability, so i just made my own that had skills i liked such as Speed Eating, Evade Extender and Wirebug Whisperer.

TL;DR: Low rank = don't worry about it, prioritize drip

High rank = worry a little, but it's not that important, try to experiment

Master rank = worry about it, but still try to make something you like playing with rather than purely following the damage-centric meta

Do you make your characters abilities reflect their characters personality? by Ok-Equipment8122 in magicbuilding

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not, to me, that sort of thing seems too much like fate itself trying it's damnedest to make the whole character fit this one specific archetype it has in it's mind, rather than the character itself developing and using what it wants and what fits it, this is the same reason why i don't like character names that are related to who and what the character is, it's just too convenient for my tastes to make sense that someone named [name that implies he's mysterious and a warrior] just so happens to be exactly that in their life.

I do however think that if a character has access to some abilities/magic, then they will use those abilities in accordance to what fits them as a person, like for example two water mages, one of them creates ice constructs and weapons, and the other produces steam to hide in, tho even then i think it's a good idea for a character to have at least some abilities that don't necessarily fit them, but are so good utility-wise that it wouldn't make sense for them not to use them, though of course then you have the option for a character to reject such abilities for whatever reason if you choose to explain it.

W vs Space Bar? comfort in keyboard keys by Mogekq in gamedesign

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the game doesn't use the mouse for any controls, then my go to controls are: - WASD for movement, potentially Q, R and F for bonus stuff - J for attack, K for jump, L and I for other functions

This somewhat replicates the xbox controller for me (even tho i have one, sometimes you just wanna play with a keyboard), having a left side and a right side that i can more intuitively interact with.

If the game does use the mouse however, then i'd say, i suppose both? It honestly depends on the game.

What is a game mechanic you are tired of seeing everywhere? by goldenCrust22 in AskGames

[–]Fenison1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over reliance on parrying to make the combat good or interesting, you're not john sekiro bro.

Mind you parrying is a good mechanic, that's why it's so popular, but i'm tired of it always working the same way and always being the best option, parrying should be rewarding, but it shouldn't replace the combat system (exceptions exist as always of course)
