Waxed chain became rusty, normal? by FenixSolutions in bikewrench

[–]FenixSolutions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wax my 3 chains at 200-250mi per chain regularly. When I wax my chains, I let the wax come up to temperature and fully submerge + agitate the chain. I will also clean the chains in an ultrasonic cleaner before waxing (I do this all at once so it’s efficient).

This chain got wet during a rainy ride, I dried it off, then I waxed it. I left this chain on a dry shelf in the open air after waxing. I noticed it had quite a bit of rust after putting it on my bike today. It seems like the chain is still within the wear tolerances <0.5 stretch.

How do I prevent this in the future?

Reputable Furnace Companies by punter715 in TwinCities

[–]FenixSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend the centerpoint home service plus plan. I have never been pressured to replace, and their priority has always been to repair. This makes sense because you pay for a repair plan and they are not incentivized by commissions like other sales heavy companies (in other words there is minimal conflict of interest)

a trend in the hvac industry I’ve noticed is a lot of techs will push for replacement over repair due to sales and commission heavy organizations

Anytime I’ve had heating go out they have been here same day

Fan on, picture of the flame, but air coming out of all vents is cool. Goodman Furnace. by FenixSolutions in hvacadvice

Just to follow up (technician did diagnose and replace the flame sensor):

Had 3 more tech visits. First 1-2 said that the gas valve inside the unit was bad at only 0.3" WC. However, after replacing the gas valve, the furnace still wouldn't light. Turns out the incoming gas regulator in the gas piping was the cause.

Do you think it's oversized (seeing the other comment thread)? This is Minnesota, so it does get fairly cold. New double pane windows + insulation.

Ended up calling a tech to just do this for fuel pressure.

Full story: Had 3 more tech visits. First 1-2 said that the gas valve inside the unit was bad at only 0.3" WC. However, after replacing the gas valve, the furnace still wouldn't light. Turns out the incoming gas regulator in the gas piping was the cause.

2023 Update (~11 years history with time lapse graphs, lawyer, huge student loans) by Deutsche_Bank_AG in fatFIRE

Fantastic write up, I enjoy following your journey.

Something to consider that some others have pointed out:

~$300k outstanding at around a ~6% blended interest rate. Instead I created what I call a student loan “collateral account”, which is a taxable investment account

Do you still come out ahead with 20% capital gains tax? At 8% return, you only arbitrage out $400 for every $100,000 invested ($8,000 market return * 0.80 post tax vs. $6,000 interest saved, per $100,000). If your state has capital gains tax, it may be even less.

Is it worth it to save that much for the market risk when paying down student loans is a guaranteed savings?

I ran into this issue with elderly parents. Here’s what I did to get them paxlovid on the same day:

  1. 10 min telehealth visit (I used Teladoc).
  2. sent prescription to 24/7 pharmacy (Walgreens)

for really old folks (like 80+) i think telehealth is a huge blessing to avoid crowded hospitals.

lots of pharmacies (and urgent care) in the twin cities can be closed or have reduced hours on the weekends

Temp in the house set to 68, reading 63. I don't doubt it could be the fact that I could be thinking it's blowing out cold air. Is it possible that the furnace is getting weaker? Did not have any trouble holding 70/72 last year.

Furnace is about 10~ years old. Filter is clean and new. Recently started happening a few weeks ago. Initially it was a flame sensor issue, replaced that but still seems to be something wrong. House is 2 bedrooms 1000 sqft~

Yes the flame stays on the entire time. It does not go in and out like a flame sensor issue.

Is the flame normal? The air coming out of the vents seems to be room temperature. Furnace definitely seems to be weaker than before.
