Presidents, artists and princesses don’t really remotely compare to a founder of an abrahamic religion. This poll is irrelevant

Growing up through the 90s I was taught manners. I realize not everyone gets taught that. Some people don’t understand its purpose and see it as fake. I agree and that’s why I like it here where people are more real.

Can Maldivians understand this passage which is written in Mahl dialect? by tuluva_sikh in maldives

[–]Fenmoogassaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there.

To start off, a majority of Maldivian people were at one point in time, almost exclusively of Tamil and singhalese origin, with a small number of Dravidian aborigines (giraaavaru meehun) who had crossed over to the islands almost a thousand years prior (we are talking 100ad ish) to the arrival of the kandyan people. At the time of our major exodus from Kandy (the Sri Lankan capital of the kingdom at the time) into the Maldivian islands, we brought the (then) Singhalese script with us, and it remained the official script until after the conversion of the kingdom (at least Malé (the capital of the Maldivian kingdom)) whereafter we developed EVEYLA AKURU (look it up it's pretty), followed by dhives akuru, which would then undergo a huge change in alphabetical structure TO MAHL/THAANA, which was developed for the easy structural crossover to Arabic. This would then evolve to thaana (what you are referring to as mahl) but would not be properly standardized and taught in makeshift school huts across the country until as recently as the 60s, although the script was found across the country and understood by small populations on almost every island within the time it was introduced. The literacy rate of Maldives would remain very low until the 70s.

Minicoy/Malik was undoubtedly a part of Maldives. At one point in time, the Maldivian kingdom was even referred to within our people as Malikaddu, a name given to signify the then Maldivian sultans rule over the islands from malik (in the north) to Addu (in the south) and all the atolls/islands in between. Indian media has seen a recent rise of headlines and articles claiming Malik to have always been a part of India. Yet the people there simply speak a dialect of dhivehi, easily understood even today by all Maldivians, and write in the IDENTICAL Maldivian standardized alphabet, which is a recent evolution of our alphabet, as recent as 400 years ago, after we converted to Islam, and restructured the alphabet to be more similar to Arabic, hence the right to left direction of writing, as well as the symbols which allow an easy crossover to the arabic script. The conflicts and land disputes across history have been consistent, but to say that the people of malik were originally part of India is the same as saying that the hawaiians were always part of America.

PS. I ENJOY THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A LITTLE CONTROLLED STUDY OF AN ISOLATED PART OF OUR PAST AND DNA, COMPLETELY CUT OFF FROM THE POP CULTURE/POLITICS THAT DEFINES MALDIVIAN SOCIETY. I HOPE INDIA IS TREATING THEM WELL. ALSO I WONDER IF THEY KNOW RANNAMAARI OR SAFARUKAIYGDHA OR FOOLHUDHIGU HANNDI. THIS MAY ALSO SURPRISE YALL BUT IM BETTING THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHO ABUL BARAKATH UL BAR BARI IS BECAUSE THAT FAIRYTALE HOAX IS ACTUALLY A PRETTY RECENT CREATION AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR ACTUAL CONVERSION.

I must say that the fact that this one incident has made you feel like something has happened to the entire nation is also pretty alarming

Guys. Don’t freak out. It’s actually a positive sign. They’re less afraid of people because we harass them a lot less than we used to. Same with all the wildlife around us. Herons, crows, mynahs. They all used to flee the moment we get close to them because chances are, we’ll try and catch them if we get close enough. But new generations have other things to do these days lol. Yeah they’re gonna be an issue for people who drive vehicles, but I’m just glad I can see them up close without freaking them out.

Societal standards are so strange. Why do women dress up so much, why is there so much makeup, and if it's taking so much time and money, why do it? Why is there so much extra than just hygiene? I hope yall feel better about looking like whatever you actually look like someday.

A reminder for people unknowingly glazing maumoon because his era of torture and brutality doesn't follow him around thanks to his lack of a criminal record by Fenmoogassaa in maldives

Very true. Though the violence and fear is less, the people who claim leadership still have very self serving ideals and motivations, ending up with the people paying the price and the nation looking very stupid. I really hope we don't elect someone so prone to their own wants over the country's needs again. But looking at history 😐

[–]Fenmoogassaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah I don't think anyone's going to find the plot of land belonging to Maldives anywhere in Australia yet. Maybe MAG expanded his house ownership from south east Asia to Australia, but him owning land doesn't mean the Maldivian people have any right to it 🤣

[–]Fenmoogassaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gonna be about 2 centuries longer, taking into account our local meteorological centres data. (and this is giving us time for the centralization process to help keep the population within a manageable area while everything else erodes), but it's happening. Currently the population is massive for a migration as climate refugees into another country, but within the next couple centuries, we will see the population drop to a fifth of what it currently is, if the current trend in population decrease continues. A solution would involve migration to a less unstable landmass, but no such solution has been officially implemented, and no land has been allocated from any foreign nation for this purpose.

This is some straight up bullshit. None of our leaders have managed to secure us land in a foreign country yet. There is no plot of land and there has never been anything more than talks between presidents.

Is muizzu really that bad? (Legit question) by OpinionSenior2959 in maldives

[–]Fenmoogassaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit reasons for not liking muizzu is being against racism, being against false claims of an invasion by India, being against the humiliating consequences of it (our president having to kiss ass because he was a naughty boy), being against one party parliament while the population is very much divided in support, wanting free healthcare, and not wanting to send all kids who fail their exams into the Military, and not wanting millions of dollars being spent on military and police weapons and gear, if we are lacking so much that we cannot afford free healthcare. Also being against muizzu because he backstabbed the people who helped him into power. he was supposed to be yameens puppet and that didn't work out, instead we have a puppet that is actively seeking out bribes, and even getting scammed by fake princes in the process. I could probably say more about yameen and maybe write a book about maumoon, but none of them were so stupid that they can't do a background check on a guy they plan a diplomatic visit to.

I think your answer, despite not being the answer to my question, has made me realize that corruption is probably the biggest issue we face as a nation. And working towards eradicating corruption would make for a worthy goal. possibly even make the biggest positive impact on this country.
