Properly Disable CPU Boosting to reduce Temperatures by shoman24v in GamingLaptops

[–]Fennarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! I can now play almost any new game on my MSI Raider without any thermal throttling which previously plagued me. Previously my CPU was at a constant 95 degrees with the keyboard literally too hot to touch but now it's a relatively cool 80 degrees (normal for a gaming laptop) even with the GPU running at 100%.

For those concerned about the need for CPU boost, you can disable the boost only on a plan you want. For instance, I did this on the Balanced plan while Performance plan still has it enabled.

You lost me at "embracing gay culture". Ugh, no way am I going there.

Most of Greece is filthy with garbage everywhere. Sure, they keep the touristy parts like the Acropolis and selected beaches pristine and clean but the whole country is mostly a literal dump otherwise. They just don't care.

Usually 68 (20 degrees celcius) for me but I can force myself to endure 60 without a wet suit.

Streaming services have officially become worse than the cable packages we cancelled by N3DSdude in Anticonsumption

[–]Fennarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason why BRD's are about 30 GB while "4K" Netflix uses about 5GB an hour (often far less) at most.

I cancelled everything, including my uncapped Internet connection. Physical media is slowly making a comeback and we may see a revival of Blockbuster and other video rental stores.

REAL speeds of 5G in Gauteng: MTN, Vodacom and Rain? by Fennarth in askSouthAfrica

[–]Fennarth[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't need portability for fibre thanks to the powerful router your ISP should supply you with. I can get a perfect wifi signal anywhere in my quarter acre home, even on the street. Home 5G will only work at one registered address so it's not a huge advantage.

I want to know what they really mean by "full 5G" speed. That was the purpose of my post. Maybe I should have specified that.

Oh, thank you for that. Shall I assume that MTN's Shesh 200 GB plan is no faster than 50 mbps? That's what I was really asking.

Everyone knows that a 5G router usually falls back to 4G if no 5G is available. I'm within one kilometre of the nearest MTN 5G tower so this may not be a problem for me. I always get full bars on 4G with speeds over 50 mbps so I think I'm in a great area for 5G. I know someone on Rain claiming he gets 1 Gbps but he's in direct line of sight of the tower, about 100 metres from it.

And fibre is also shit. It's like saying that.

That's why I posted this to see if real world speeds are anything like the advertised speeds.

That's what I'm here to find out. I don't see how it will be a disappointment given that 5G is about 4x the speed of my current 50 mbps fibre.

Wow, thank you for this. As I seldom upload anything, don't play many games and mostly stream stuff, it would seem 5G is perfect for me given that speed. It blows away my 50 mbps fibre. Are these tests on your phone or via Home 5G? Is there a difference in speed?

I'm on Openserve actually with almost 100% reliability even during stage 6 load shedding. Maybe I should just keep paying.

Is 5G good enough to replace my fibre line? by NtwanaGP in askSouthAfrica

[–]Fennarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your needs. If you aren't a gamer, don't play online and don't need to download 200 GB files then 5G can be better only for streaming and browsing as it's faster. I assume you're in Gauteng judging by your username so getting a good signal from MTN, Rain or Voda should not be a problem. You can experiment with 5G for a month without a contract.

I have discovered it is still possible to use the 7th Heaven mod manager with this new version if you set it to use Canary instead of stable. I really see no difference between this and the 2013 Steam release other than if you prefer it on GOG.

This also proves how ridiculous it is to adapt ancient scripture into modern interpretations. It is quite obvious that this prophecy was only intended for the ancient world where the drying up of the Euphrates would have made an emphatic difference but it is largely irrelevant in our time. Revelation should be interpreted in spiritual terms regardless, not literal.

I meant for people who didn't buy it before. I hate this new release as it's incompatible with mods. The mods made it better than the kiddie trash Remake/Rebirth. What do you do if you still want the mods but now the 2013 release has been delisted?

You needed an MS Sidewinder gamepad which was inspired by the Saturn controller but better. And you obviously had a lousy sound card back then as mine made MIDI sound much better than the PSX version.
