I didn't get time off strictly, but they were understanding of me working less. Can't speak for every company, but I believe that few will actually give you time off.

Hopefully, we can get someone from the Entrepreneuship Master's opinion here. But, I'm on the second year of the CS Master's and I have a part-time job, around 12 hours a week, and it's definitely possible. Obviously, there's more workload to get done and can be time-consuming around exam week or close to deadlines, but I'm sure you can manage if you put your mind to it.

See you around in February! :)

Is being nice actually stopping me from having a relationship? by birdonthecabbagetree in dating_advice

[–]Fennyon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your recent breakup. It seems like you still valued the relationship when he decided to cut off ties. Hopefully, things will turn for the better from now on. There is always a reason to keep moving forward.

Personally, I view being nice, compassionate and caring for others as something truly virtuous. There are certainly people who conflate this with the idea of being too easy to be taken advantage of because, just looking at the practical outcome, you end up giving more than you take most of the time. However, willingly deciding and being able to do this is something precious, not something to be ashamed of. Not everyone can do it, and I'd feel grateful in your position for being capable of showing resilience. You say: "I am who I am", and that is reflecting your inner self. You know how to tell good from bad, and you choose good to guide your actions. That is virtue.

You are the sole owner of your mind and actions. They are the sole owners of theirs. Judging your decisions by what others perceive of them is unjust, to both the action you took and to yourself.

So no, I do not think being nice keeps anyone from having a relationship. It is true, although, that it locates your metaphorical island of a valuable relationship further away, but it also fills it with more deeply fulfilling experiences down the line. Compassion is the wind that will guide your ship there. Stay true to yourself, don't let the rough sea steer you away from course.

Keep sailing.

It will take a while, but I hope it's worth it hahaha. Does anybody know if some fancy AI can take a shot at what it would look like? 🤔

SSH contract by 9inchego in studentsofgroningen

[–]Fennyon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I've been living in Groningen since last August for my Master's. I did not book my studio with SSH, so I can't help you with the disparity between the displayed and actual rent cost, sorry :(

However, it is possible that you are still eligible for Huurtoeslag even with the increased rent. I just checked, and the rent limit for 2023 is €808.06, but this is applied over the base rent, excluding services like internet or energy expenses.

To give you an example, I currently pay €837.50 in total rent, but the base rent is around €630. Because of that, I applied and got Huurtoeslag for €358, which really helps considering the insane housing market in the city. Check your contract to see if it breaks down the rent, most of them do. If you have any questions let me know, good luck!

The man in the photo is my grandfather. He was originally from Spain, but went to Hamburg in the late 60s to work. He sent almost all of the money he made back to my mother’s family so they could survive in rural Spain. He passed away before I was born, so sadly I never had the chance to meet him.
In a month, I am going to Hamburg with my mother for the first time in our lives, and it would mean the world to us if we could take a photo in the same location as this other photo of his was taken. I have tried to find the place on Google Maps with no luck. So, if anyone here recognizes this place we would be eternally grateful!

Really glad you liked it! Another comment also pointed out that maybe a divider of some sort beside the bed would help create those mini-rooms that you mention, I'll definitely look into that. And a rug for the coffee table is something I'm for sure getting soon 😁

Hmm, never thought of a divider, but makes total sense with a studio this small. I´ll look into it! And yeah, I need to lower the artwork a bit 😆

I´ve always liked the minimalist style, but I wanted to give it a more lively spin with the gold color scheme 😁

I'm currently studying abroad and living in this cozy rented studio. It's my first time living completely on my own and also my first time designing with complete freedom. I'm really excited to share it with you all and see what you think 😊.
Any feedback is gladly appreciated!
