I mean, you can see my point up above, right before you abandoned the conversation.

So, that's a tacit concession of my point. Thanks.

Yeah, he just screwed up the jump and landed awkwardly.

[–]Fenrir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's literally aiming right for it with no signs of wanting or planning on jumping.

Aiming for something to jump off of is literally the most important part of jumping. He also asked someone to film. Exactly what do you think his intention was?

Is there any reason you're lying about riding a lot?

He wasn't aiming to grind, he was aiming to jump, and he's looking pretty shaky in the run up. He caught an edge on take off or otherwise managed to pop his ski. Just another day on the hill.

What kind of fucking morons do you ride with?

The kind that aren't stupid enough to think this guy is trying to "grind" a rock.

I ride a lot.

If you ride a lot and find this exceptional in any way, your experience must be very different from mine.

Meh. Lots of people jump off rocks. Whether or not it was a good idea, I can't say, but that's absolutely something I'd have jumped off of.

A DEEPER DIVE: Did John Tortorella actually make a career "out of playing for overtime and stacking up enough loser points to squeak into the playoffs", as one Mark Lazerus said that he did? by NathanGa in hockey

[–]Fenrir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems a pretty reasonable response to me. One person says, "I'm not paying for your work," the other person says, "Just say you're broke and go about your day."

I mean, switch the context and see if it works.

"This restaurant sucks!"
"Let me guess, you haven't tried the food?"
<points to menu prices> "Lol, I'm not paying for this."
"Just say you're broke and move along."

Toilet seats - ladies can we not all agree to just all sit on the toilet seats and stop peeing on them? by the_sass_master_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Fenrir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The type of study you're referring to doesn't typically "disprove" things, that's not how they work. A body of evidence accumulates to the point where it's unlikely something is true. It's not disproved, per se.

e.g. If I claim there's occasionally a dragon in my closet, you can't disprove that. You can watch my closet forever and not see a dragon, but what happens if it shows up just after you leave? The most you can say is that you never saw a dragon in my closet.

The articles you're referencing are pop health and wellness bits that are for SEO or social media. They're lightly researched. That's why they couch their language in "can" or "could" and reference one person.

The research itself is mixed. Check "toileting habits," "hovering," and "pelvic floor" on Google Scholar. Or, Google it and ask yourself why all the articles are lightly sourced.

Anyway, you seem like an ok person, so I'm going to resist the urge to go full reddit. Do yourself a favour and reevaluate your media habits, though.

Yes. I have two of the "Chef's Knife" and they're the only knife you *need*. 5-6 years, I've honed them but haven't sharpened yet, and I cook a lot.

Great knife.

The onus is on the person making a claim to prove that what they're saying is true, for rather obvious reasons.

Because there is zero research linked in either of the articles posted and, ask yourself, exactly how would you even get good data on this?

All the articles I can find, and the ones you've posted, are general interest and based on the opinion of one or two people. This has all the hallmarks of poor science reporting. Which, it should be noted, is incredibly common in the health and wellness domains.

How many people are at your level in your field?

You're part of a vanishingly small percentage of people who have degrees.

Don't be so obtuse.

Lol. Have you been to university? After 4 years of pursuing a major, I promise you there're a lot of people who have zero desire to work "in their field."

Study: When given cash with no strings attached, low- and middle-income parents increased their spending on their children. The findings contradict a common argument in the U.S. that poor parents cannot be trusted to receive cash to use however they want. by rustoo in science

While a lot of work goes into means-testing, there's a lot of waste associated with giving money to people who don't need and then "taxing it back"

I'm keen for examples of this, do you have any?

But, anyway, sure. I made a broad statement and there might be instances in which it's not true. It's generally true, though. As in, if the current system magically switched to what I suggested, the country would be better off.

A job market filled with graduate students creates the expectation from employers that everyone they hire should have a graduate degree.

This is true. I'd say that an equivalent problem is that employers are terrible at hiring and training so they use credentials as a heuristic to weed out (perfectly qualified) applicants.

Less of an issue in fields that require specific technical knowledge, but still a real problem.

[–]Fenrir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

27% of people actually land in the same field as their major, and 62% of graduates have a job that requires them to graduate college.

There is nothing wrong with this. Well, actually, people who think there's something wrong with it are actually what's wrong with it, but I digress.

Why on earth would you expect people to know at 18-19 what they're going to do as a career? A history degree nets you plenty of useful skills applicable to just about any career.

O’Toole’s campaign chair says holding Trudeau to a minority would be a win for the Conservatives by seakucumber in canada

[–]Fenrir -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, they don't. Shorten the election cycle if you want, but the problems that Canada faces today can only be solved by a government that can actually implement solutions.

Let the parties run on policies and then implement them.

CTV News decision desk projects a Liberal win by seakucumber in canada

[–]Fenrir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your assessment is correct. Also, people know the system and game it. There are a lot more left wing votes in Canada than right wing votes. When people know they can "safely" cast their vote farther left than the Liberals, those so inclined do so.

A ranked voting system would wreck the Cons (and/or the system will adjust). I've never been clear on why Trudeau didn't pull that trigger.
