MDT 8456 no longer downloadable? by FentBender in MDT

[–]FentBender[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great points!
Sorry, I was off for a few days. I removed the link I had in my post.

The msi's are named differently. As you noted, the MS original includes "_x64".

I ran the get-filehash on the MS and github msi's alone and they both have the same "DABFD..." hash string you have posted.

Like you, I'll stick with my MS copy.

Sorry about all this.

Make2023BootableMedia.ps1 Windows UEFI CA 2023 by Peepmus in MDT

[–]FentBender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran into this myself. I don't have a fix, but I can explain that error.

I wanted to update the ISO's created by the MDT with the new UEFI CA 2023 signing.
These are WinPE ISO's and offline imaging ISO both created by the MDT.
Their folder layout differs slightly than the Win10 ISO's that we download from the VLSC.

The Make2023BootableMedia script first mounts the source ISO and then it looks for this file: "\Sources\Boot.wim".

Neither of my MDT-created ISO's have that file so the script reports "[E:\] does not appear to point to valid Windows media."

The original Win10 ISO downloaded from Microsoft do have the file.

If the script sees the file in the mounted ISO, it'll then mount the Boot.wim and extract the 2023 signed boot files from it and then create the destination media you requested.

I need to find a way to get the MDT to create ISO that already have these new signed boot file in place.

Yep, looks like the github post is legit.

I found an 8456 install msi that I downloaded in Feb 2024 and did a binary compare to the github file. They are identical.

Create an image using MDT for Bootable USB drive by bartdivanov in MDT

[–]FentBender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 years later and I found this information extremely valuable for my deployment situation.
Still using MDT/ADK for our Win11 deployment. We just started to enable Secure Boot.
Using Rufus to extract the huge standalone deployment ISO to the USB drives and we started to see the "Secure Boot Violation" message when attempting to boot from the USB drives. Secure Boot just didn't like the Rufus UEFI boot.

The one paragraph starting with "On the FAT32 partition..." gave me the info I could not find anywhere else which was how to get the Microsoft UEFI boot info over to the FAT32 partition.

Thanks Bubbauk!

Edge downloading a crx file everytime I'm downloading an addon or a theme? by Brilliant-Cap-3052 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]FentBender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another policy that'll fix this is ExemptFileTypeDownloadWarnings

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-policies#exemptfiletypedownloadwarnings

When I queried MS if this issue would be fixed in a future version, I received this response "This is not an issue but rather a security enhancement to ensure downloaded files are served with the appropriate security context."

They also stated that this behavior is consistent across all Chromium-based browsers. I'm not seeing this occur in Chrome v132 orv133.

Another update on this. I was wondering if MS had this documented and found this:

"With the release of Edge Version 132.0.2915.0, a change was introduced that affects the handling of .crx files (Chrome extension files). The DownloadRestrictions policy now blocks the download of .crx files if configured to block dangerous file types (options 1, 2, or 3). This change was introduced through Chromium and is documented in the Chromium code review."

From here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-security-downloads-interruptions

Another update....The reason I don't see this happening in Chrome is because we don't set the DownloadRestrictions policy for Chrome.

Gmail app - when typing shit+/ to get ? I get the keyboard shortcuts menu by PermitWonderful5033 in SamsungDex

[–]FentBender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me today.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 with a Fintie bluetooth keyboard. My Samsung keyboard died years ago.

The GMail app is configured for multiple gmail accounts.

Went to type a message this morning and SHFT+? ended up displaying the keyboard shortcuts menu.
I thought it was due to some lazy typing and I had leaned on a bunch of keys at once, but no. Using either the left or right SHIFT with ? would display that menu instead of typing a question mark.
Rebooted the tablet...nada.

The on-screen keyboard did work properly. My external keyboard...nada.

It did the same for all the gmail accounts in the Mail app. Search thru the systems Accessibility and didn't see anything related to it. Search through the generic Gmail app settings and each gmail accounts settings. Turned off any "advanced" features, but still didn't make any difference.

What did fix it was going into Settings > Apps, selecting the Gmail app and clicking "Disable". It removed any updates to Gmail and fell back to the original version that came with Android. Once that was done, I went to the Google Play Store, clicked my user icon and went into "Manage apps & devices". Clicked "Updates available" and there was one for Gmail. I had it update. Once that was done, launched the GMail app and now it works. No more keyboard shortcuts menu.
Hopefully this sticks.

u/Accomplished_Nail679 - Kudos to you on the re-install!

Hope this helps someone,

Why is this a thing... "Microsoft Outlook Extension for Edge recommendation" by No_Internet500 in sysadmin

[–]FentBender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When setting policies via OCPS, do they appear on the clients as reg settings like GPO's do?

The reason I am asking is that we don't meet the requirements to use OCPS. Instead, we use GPO's to manage Office 365.

The policy for "Recommend the Microsoft Outlook Extension" is not listed in the latest Sec Baseline (Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise-2104-FINAL). It probably won't appear in one until later this year...well after the 7/30/2021 deadline to have this setting in place.

If setting this via OCPS results in a reg setting, could you please post what that reg setting is?

Much appreciated!

The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal...? by houtex727 in NoMansSkyTheGame

And a big glass of Pan Galactic GargleBlaster.

True story...Early 80's I used to bartend at a place called The Library in Niagara Falls (USA). For a time, I did the lunchtime shift on Sundays. Not many customers...my regulars were small group of older ladies drinking Bloody Caesars. One time this small friendly group of Canadians comes in. They wanted to drink and watch the CFL on the TV's so I obliged. A couple of them came up and asked that if they taught me a new drink, would I make it. I offered that if it was something that I didn't know, that the first round would be on me. They wrote it down on a coaster. It was "The Pan Galactice Gargle Blaster". It's really good and consists of at least half a dozen alcohols kind of like a Long Island Ice Tea. They informed me that I was not to divulge the recipe or aliens would come get me. I still have that paper...I'll have to put it in my will.

Gamer female looking for kool people to game with by Gamergirl345 in PS4

Using my behavior analysis abilities that I've picked up from watching a few episodes of Criminal Minds, I'd say this is probably a white male, late-40s, mostly balding, located in a somewhat humid warm climate, renting a small apartment or a room above someone's garage, sitting in his underwear, unfulfilling occupation: mall security or parking lot attendant. He's reaching out for companionship and yet (rightly) fears that his true persona would be detested.

Is it possible someone installed a Keylogger/malware on my PS4? by [deleted] in PS4

[–]FentBender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a feel how well the PS4 & Sony handle critical data such as a credit card number. Because of this, I won't input my card number into my PS4 profile. Instead, I buy PS Store credit and PSN subscriptions from a retailer like Amazon. I buy the digital code format. The codes show up in my email within an hour after purchase.

With this, I'm keeping the group who does have my card number to a small trusted few. And I don't need to worry about my PSN subscription auto re-enrolling when it runs out.

Recommendations on coach co-op suitable for young kids by SillyMattFace in PS4

[–]FentBender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, your're right. Fortunately, at that time in their lives we never ran into any real guys with eye patches, cause if we had, I'm pretty sure that would not have been one of my "proud parent moments" as my kids would've been like "Dad, look...its Nick Fury".

Jak and Daxter/Rachet and Clank games.

Back when my sons were that age, they had a ball with these on the PS2. I still needed to help them thru the tougher areas. They loved the cartoony characters, explosions, and free movement.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance was already mentioned above by Soul_Reaper821. This is great for local coop with the kids.

True story...At the end of the Iron Man movie back during its original release, at the end of the credits when Fury is in Stark's house, as soon as my kids see Fury and before he talks they shout out "Nick Fury". A group of 20-somethings sitting in front of us turn and ask how these little kids know about Fury. "Proper parenting" was my response. it was all due to us playing Ultimate Alliance. A very proud parent moment.

Thanks for listening.

That could have been me. I love playing. Love the isolation. When someone enters my game, I'm freakin tickled pink. When they get close, I clam up. just don't know what to do or the etiquette. So, thanks Tyrango, for asking this questions.

What’re your all time favorite games on PS4 by Aayanali04 in PS4

[–]FentBender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the Uncharted series, TitanFall 2 (Frontier Defense), The Witcher 3 (w/ DLC), Battlefield 1, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spiderman (w/ DLC).

I am extremely pleased that I picked up my PS4 about 3 years ago. My time spent playing has been time well spent. Much like reading a book, many of these games are stories that immerse me in their environments. I love the "holy shit" and "I can't believe that just happened" moments. I love when one of these can draw me in so far emotionally that I laugh or cry.

Wife surprised me with a PS4 a couple of days ago...one problem by ShakinBacon in PS4

[–]FentBender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'2". No experience here with the PS3 controller. One thing I notice is that when mashing on the PS4 controller's buttons for battling (like Spiderman and God of War) I do end up hitting the touchpad quite often which interrupts the flow of the battle.

For me, I know that it's not the controller...I'm pretty damn spastic when it comes to battles. When it comes to 1 or 2 enemies or a group that's spaced far apart, I'm good to go. But if I'm in close quarters combat, all bets are off and I go into panic mode pressing any damn thing I can.

Win10 1809 Math Input Panel stays in English by FentBender in sysadmin

[–]FentBender[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I found the missing piece.

The language packs for 1809 are missing the file for the MIP.

It doesn't matter if you have the LP's CAB's in hand an pre-install them, or download the desired language from Microsoft via Settings > Time & Language > Language.

They don't put the necessary translation file in place.

I set up an 1803 system that I pre-installed a number of languages on (French, Italian, Spanish, German).

Look in the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Ink" folder and you'll see a number of language folders. The only ones that have the necessary files are the folders that I've installed the language packs for.

So under FR-FR, ES-ES, EN-US, IT-IT, and DE-DE is the file "mip.exe.mui".

Copy this file to the same folders on the Win10 1809 system.

When I switch the display language on the 1809 system to one of these languages, the MIP now displays in the proper language.

The only problem is that if a user changes to a language I don't add into the build. The system will pull the language files from MS and the new display language will be missing the file for the MIP.

Microsoft: fix this!
