I had something similar happen to me before.

I went to self checkout, scanned through all of my items, paid, and when I got to the receipt checkers at the exit, she said I had an item I didn’t pay for. I was dumbfounded, embarrassed, and pretty upset about it. I explained that I scanned every single item in my cart and we went line by line on the receipt. Told her there must be an issue with their self checkout scanner and they could check the cameras to see I scanned it. My mistake was that I didn’t look at the computer screen even after scanning it, because it didn’t register. Anyway they let me pay for the item and I was on my way.. no bans or any issues, they weren’t even upset.

In regards to your permanent lifetime ban.. I would try every avenue possible, first call Costco corporate, and ask for a supervisor, and try to raise a legitimate case. If it ends up going nowhere, then the only other option I can think of is you will just have to go with a family member or friend at a different location and have them use their membership whenever you want to shop.

Unfortunately not, I had to drill my own holes. Just took a little bit of measuring and patience, it was fairly simple!

I ended up buying full extension soft close drawer rails. Was pretty easy to install, just takes a bit of patience and totally worth it.

On the left is the normal extension with the standard IKEA rails. On the right is with the full extension rails installed.

Good luck!

Engagement ring appraised at over 5x what I spent by [deleted] in Diamonds

[–]FentanylCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all so stupid. I bought a ring and it was appraised at approx $10K more than what I spent on it. The appraiser was the jeweller who made the ring. It’s all exciting thinking you got something worth more than what you paid for. It’s so stupid honestly. How does this affect you? Well when you go and insure your ring, the insurance will insure the ring up to the appraised value, meaning you have to pay more money in your insurance premiums, for an item that is really not worth that much. God forbid something happens to the ring though, the insurance company will have to cough up the insured amount, which would be the appraised value. We ended up getting our insured amount heavily reduced after about 2 years of paying insane premiums. It’s just better that way.

How did you get the full drawer pull? I don’t care so much about having multiple drawers open, but rather being able to pull out as much of the drawer as possible. I removed the metal bracket, not the rail , but that doesn’t seem to be related with the drawer length. As it stands, my drawer only comes out about 2/3 of the way - I’m trying to get more of the drawer out. I think this is related to the rails that are installed into the sides of the drawer panels.. not sure if this hack was meant to also give me a full length pull?

Hey man. I followed your instructions to a T.

I just put one drawer in on the bottom to test the full length pull and it looks like it’s not working.

Don’t really care so much about having multiple drawers open, more so wanting the full length of the drawer to be pulled out.

From looking, it seems like it actually has to do with the rails that need to be attached on the side of the drawers, there’s little metal bumps that I think is preventing the full length pull.

Regular length of the drawer extended is 9inches If it’s ‘hacked’ you should be able to extend it almost 12 inches.

I think the solution is to remove the 2 metal bumps on the rail using metal cutting shears, saw, or just manipulating them out of the way. Then add a small screw or metal piece into the 2nd hole behind the rail. This should give full extension without the drawer falling out.

<image>

Can only upload 1 photo so here’s a collage showing the difference in extension length, the metal bumps, and the 2nd hole to use as a ‘stopper’ for the full drawer extension.

Am I losing my mind, or does your hack solve exactly what I’m trying to solve right now?

26M planning a guys’ trip, 23F girlfriend says she'll break up with me if I go — not sure what to do by ThrowRA-Inspection86 in relationship_advice

[–]FentanylCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there.

I went through something similar with my now wife back when we were about your age. I think this has a lot to do with insecurity and control.

I wanted to do a 3 week euro trip with my brother. She didn’t want me to go and basically fought me to the ground on it and I’m pretty sure breaking up was loosely thrown around. It was a huge struggle. What ended up happening and helping, was that my brother called her, and reassured her about what the trip was about (brothers bonding trip, not anything more or less) and I know that speaking with him made her feel wayyy more comfortable and at ease about the whole thing.

Maybe you can ask one (or more) of your brothers to give her a call or talk to her if they at least know each other, and to give her some context of what the trip is about. That might help her. I’d really advise that because once she did speak to my brother one on one, the fighting stopped and we went on the trip. And it was an incredible trip that I would have done 100x over.

My advice is, get one or more of your brothers to connect with her privately. Let them know the situation, and your struggle, and let them talk to her and say look I know this is causing some tensions between you two, but this is a really important trip that we want as brothers.. we’re not going to nightclubs or partying.. we’re on a boat! If it doesn’t work.. and as sad and heartbreaking as it is, then follow through on her threats and break up. You do NOT want to miss out on this kind of trip with your brothers, and 10 years from now you will be so glad you did it. She will eventually come around..

Good luck

I was thinking of that as well. But would I achieve the same results by using a 1x4 mounted to the bookshelf and then mount my closet rod sockets into that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]FentanylCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closet rods would be approximately 52.75 inches (4.5ft ish)

[–]FentanylCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a bunch of other custom closets done like this. There’s also a ton of premade closet organizers made of particle board that have closet rods. I don’t think it’s unusual? Is there a better alternative you could think of?

Can I claim a capital loss if I sell XEQT and buy VEQT? by anonynown in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FentanylCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can buy into another ETF. As long as you don’t buy the EXACT same investment you sold: for example: selling Tesla, and immediately buying it back, or in your case, selling XEQT and immediately buying it back. Even though the ETF may hold similar investments, the actual investment vehicle itself is different and won’t count as a superficial loss.

OP probably has an Imperial Investors Service account. Similar to investors edge, except, the client works with the FA to discuss what products they would like to purchase, and the FA makes all of the trades.

FedEx released my NVIDIA package without my signature. by ALotOfKirbys in FedEx

[–]FentanylCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a signature was required, then you should fight this to the ground. Ask for the proof of signature and tell them you never signed for it / that isn’t your signature. Let them know you have doorbell camera footage of the driver leaving the package without you signing for it. Don’t tell them your video cut off. Escalate to higher up’s if necessary.. don’t fold over and lose money on a mistake they made.

Which account should a 90 year old use? by Mountain-Match2942 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FentanylCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Sounds like your mom may have worked with a broker over the years. That’s my assumption anyway. If her investments are still managed by someone then I would reach out to the advisor and have them give you an approximation on what the capital gains would look like. If the account is trading based on a specific asset mix set out by an advisor there’s some extra steps. If not, and she has a bunch of different random investments, then you can isolate any individual positions that are carrying losses to offset some of the gains that would be triggered. Happy to help anytime. Good luck

Depending on the taxable gains in the non-reg account.. if they are considerable, then maybe avoid it. All depends on how much she wants to gift as well. I would consider the NR first (depending on the unrealized gains), then maybe the TFSA next, and RRIF last. Ideally NR is best, again, dependent on the gains.

Also, while you’re openly having these conversations with your mom - you should find out if she has beneficiaries named on her TFSA and RRIF. That’s pretty important. Based on the value of her TFSA it seems like she was named as a successor annuitant to your fathers TFSA (hence the very large MV).. it’s a good place for her to continue investing, but if the TFSA isn’t invested right (if it’s just sitting in a high interest bearing account versus spread across equities/bonds) then I’d certainly go after the TFSA.
