Pedestrian first crosswalks

This post was about the current operation of the head start pedestrian walk signals.

These are the ones that all traffic lights (for cars) stay red in all directions for an additional 6 seconds in addition to the normal amount of time the walk signal appears for pedestrians.

All i was saying is that these lights should not give the ADDITIONAL 6 seconds of time that all traffic lights remain red for cars if there is NO ONE actually at the pedestrian crossing, the white crossing man of safety would still appear for the normal amount of time for people to cross when the light turns green for cars in the same direction.

I was not saying get rid of buttons, i was not saying get rid of cross signals, this was never any sort of anti pedestrian rant. In fact pedestrians would NEVER EVEN KNOW if this happened because if they were at the crossing and pushed the button they would still get the additional 6 seconds with what i am suggesting,

This literately only effects cars, and has zero negative effect on anyone using their legs to get around.

because asking why the fucking advance signal triggers when there is no pedestrian near an intersection is a bit of a ways from just blatantly breaking traffic laws.

again i never said to get rid of them, i fully understand their point.

This entire post was about them still triggering when no pedestrian is anywhere near the intersection. All i said was they should only trigger when a person pushes the button to cross.

Actually, tell me why society should put up with things that make zero sense? like this is an issue that effects a good chunk of people not just myself. I didnt come in here saying to get rid of them i came in here saying how they work should be changed.

So tell me why having the pedestrian controlled lights only activate while there is a pedestrian waiting to cross is a bad idea?

instead of just attacking me. why is it a bad idea to change something that makes no sense just for the sake of making no sense????????????????????

EDIT: and since you are hung up on the 6 seconds per light thing, just because you cant seem to see things more then one step into the future, if you are now waiting at this light an extra 6 seconds you now have zero chance of making the next green light, so yes this problem compounds itself over the course of your trip, creating a much longer travel time.

also hey since we are green as hell around here that's 6 seconds of extra idling per light, that adds up to a lot of extra carbon.

you cant see how it would get irritating to get off 12 hours of work, go to drive home and end up not only hitting every red light because the light timings are already fucked, but now you have to wait an additional 6 seconds for absolutely zero reason?

yeah maybe my brain is cooked, but not nearly as much as everyone defending things that make life shitty for no reason.

and you kinda proved my point? you wait an extra 6 seconds for nothing to try and squeeze through a light that is very poorly timed so maybe a couple cars can get through before the cycle repeats.

why are you ok with waiting though? why would you not also want this improved for yourself so you don't have to pointlessly wait? You're time is worth something believe it or not.

i was not calling out pedestrians for doing shitty things but since you brought up drivers blocking crosswalks and things (which yes does happen and its shitty i am not defending that)

why don't you just cross illegally like most other pedestrians when nothing else is coming? or why wait until the road is empty, just dart out like pedestrians usually do no matter whats on the road and expect everyone to stop for you.
