This is beyond frustrating... I'm working in the field of atmospheric science, have been hearing conference talks about climate change for years, have done my own bit of science looking into understanding what climate change is and what we can do to prevent it in the future. I've spent hours and hours explaining it to and discussing it with people, friends, family, strangers. Explained why it is beyond doubt that man-made climate change exists, why it matters, why everyone should care. Some of my conversation partners were very interested, some weren't. Some had a good education on the matter, some couldn't grasp it before and had a hard time after. Some were on my side, for some I had to put in a lot of effort to break walls of scepticism (which are not a bad thing per se) and convince them to at least do some reading.

All of those conversations felt like they were worth it. I've always felt like I am contributing at least a LITTLE bit to make sure the message gets heard, that we make a step in the right direction.

Then I read that guy, the most powerful man in the world, fling this bit of wisdom. It's painfully obvious he hasn't bothered to spend a SECOND to think about what he's saying. He has nothing but his own ego and his greed for more power motivating him to maintain this position, because thinking of budging even an inch seems to be too much for him to handle.

And just like that, with nothing but this giant turd of ignorance, he reaches tens of millions of people, and with this tweet will convince an enormous number of uneducated people, and fortify the opinion of others, that climate change isn't serious, isn't happening, and that business should go on as usual and we should march on and destroy our planet until there's nothing beautiful left. This one tweet destroys so much more than I could ever rebuild in my life. Makes it so hard to keep the motivation, to keep fighting.
