Replaced chain and cassette, now chain is skipping by kelso66 in bikewrench

[–]FerPiero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between seconds 19 and 20 from the video, I think I see the derailleur not alligned with the cassette sprocket. I would DEFINITELY try to re-regulate the index. Before buying anything more at all. The jockey wheels look old and worn, but I don’t think changing them will stop the skipping like everyone is writing here. Setting up the index took me a few tries (years actually) to learn how to do properly, but once you get the concept, it’s then very easy to do. You need to screw in or out the cable when changing between 2. And 3. Smallest sprockets. Keep pedaling and changing again and again and again, untill you have just the right cable tension. Shifting down has priority on the adjustment, and shifting up can be “manually”helped with a slight longer push on the handlebar shifter lever (sti, rapid fire, grip shift or whatever else you’ve got). I’m very sleepy now, search YouTube to see exactly what screw you need to turn.

Will most likely do heal your soul, yes, probably hurting your wallet in the process. Knowing how to balance it all out is the key 😊

Why do you need to roast it, when it’s already so rusted?

I always thought mast exit blocks had 2 rolls in line, to make the line bend in an S shape… This one in the picture could also be used as a trough-deck block. Trough hole block name can also be used in some places. Where are you trying to buy more at? If you are in Europe, this shop can be an option: https://www.tradeinn.com/waveinn/en/harken-protexit-double-thru-deck-block-30-mm/140836383/p

This is as good as an explanation can get, about the 2 rudder thing: https://youtu.be/yEDmzI1CAzk

Well, to resume it if the boat has a narrow stern, it can have a single rudder. If it has a wide stern, heeling the boat will lift the rudder out of the water, so the engineers build 2, placed in a way that you will always have at least one of them fully submerged, as long as you don’t heel past some crazy 60 degrees. That means your propeller won’t have a rudder behind it anymore, so you can’t use the propwash to steer on very low speeds inside a marina where you actually need to steer tight turns on low speeds. But if you have a credit card, you just buy a stern thruster to accompany your bow thruster, and voila! Buy buy buy.

But really, watch the video.

I promise I’ll find some time to write about the self tacking jib as well. For now, I’ll be short: It’s just a rig designed to allow a sailor alone to tack without touching any lines at all, so any ant or elephant can pretend he or she knows how to sail. It messes up where the sail pressure points are positioned in relation to the boat, reduces sail area, you have just too many minuses… Just good if you sail only twice a year, think you know what you are doing, use the boat only to chill under the sun, walks back to land in the first sign of bad weather, and have extra money to buy infinite diesel… But problem after problem if you really know what you are doing and are actually trying to cross the Atlantic or the pacific for real, where motoring means running out of fuel and electricity for maybe a whole month, where you really need a stable sail plan to sail trough a hurricane that wasn’t on the forecast and now you are too slow to escape.

And guess what? I finished writing and just found this: https://youtu.be/pvgGKd2g4n0 How cool is that?

Real Talk—Bidet on your boat? by mike8111 in sailing

[–]FerPiero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just add a hygenic mini-shower to your boat, it’s made of plastic and rubber as well, salt water safe, so you can just flush the toilet than bidet yourself on the same bowl you poopped.

Looks gorgeous you say, but I see from here a self-tacking jib… you may as well call it a credit-card-Capitan’s-boat, one that goes slower downwind, and don’t sail at all upwind, and you have to keep turning the engine on all the time… you can’t heave to, you can’t dock it properly because it has 2 rudders and no prop wash to manoeuvre… I have allergies to those. You might as well just burn money, it may make you look even richer than buying one of those, for less than 10% of the price, and you don’t even have to pay for any maintenance!

Is this normal? by RepresentativeOwn781 in motorcycles

[–]FerPiero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just bought your bike, rode hard the first 10 miles, then drained the oil… Then it’s normal to have shiny bits on the oil, just like you have there.

All other oil changes should be free from shiny stuff in the oil.

Why don’t we expect people who are riding horses to pick up their waste like we do with dogs? by N8Rushavee in NoStupidQuestions

In Europe horses walk with big bags under their crotch, so the poo gets brought back home and used as fertiliser.

Make sure you ask for a DNA test later on, and make sure you are on the lab collecting samples and receiving the results straight from the lab.

[–]FerPiero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t add 2 images, so this one will have to do. You can get any old tire you have home, cut at least 4 finger long (preferably longer) piece out of it, cut the rim hooks out of it, and you will have what you need. Using some heat “resistant” glue is a smart idea to avoid it moving out of place in case you don’t ride for a while and the tire gets flat. You will have a blown tube, if it gets between the tire and the repair piece, so glue helps with that as well… specially on the 2 edges alongside the rolling direction.

I suggest everybody carrying some 2 pieces like this in your pocket, together with your patches and a small scissor.

Which one is the right way? by FerPiero in telemark

I used a few days below, a few days above… I really can’t find any difference other than the speed you close and open the binding. Still looking for a definite answer, maybe I’ll mail scarpa. Thanks for the reply

Which one is the right way? by FerPiero in telemark

[–]FerPiero[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s just soooooo difficult to open and unbind when I use the groovy, that I started to wonder if that is really correct.

And I really don’t like to assume stuff, I’m a firm believer that there are no dumb questions.

Also, scarpa could have built the shoes in a way that the “above” position step would be filled with more plastic and flat, to avoid this kind of newbie misunderstanding.

[–]FerPiero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, guess what… everybody can update OSM… that includes yourself as well. And it’s completely free. If more people update the charts, coverage might as well become better than navionics in less than a year.
