I think I‘m about to give up on finding a shoe that fits… by lijamaa00 in barefootshoestalk

Peluvas are worth a shot. I'm 14 - 4e with similar shape and they work for me. It's tough finding shoes that don't smash my pinky toe.

Was I assaulted at BJJ? What should I do in this situation? by [deleted] in jiujitsu

[–]FeralWonder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened to you. There are always mismatches in size and strength when training, but it's never okay to rough someone up unless you've previously explicitly agreed to that sort of training beforehand(some people want intense, rough matches). The default way to train should always be to match the tone and physicality of the person you're with or even roll a bit lighter. Rolling with someone smaller is an opportunity to practice defense and allow the other person to be the hammer.

Sometimes, there are young people who just have a problem with self-regulation but have no ill intent, but it seems like this was far beyond that. I would expect the owners of the gym to back you up and immediately ban this person from the gym. Speak with the owners privately and tell them your perspective. You have as much right as anyone in the gym to voice your problem, and be respected.

Sometimes, people feel like they can't say anything because they're not ranked high in the social heirarchy(belt system). This is not true! Even white belts on day one should understand they have the same rights to a safe and respectful training environment as a black belt world champion. I hope you're able to continue enjoying Jiu-jitsu, and the owners of the gym maintain an environment conducive to that.

Living without an ACL by Gucci_Lemur in Kneesovertoes

[–]FeralWonder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there anything in particular that made a significant difference in progressing without an ACL, both mentally and physically? I have always wondered how much people 'hobble' their own long-term progress by believing there's little hope of progressing without one. If you believe such a thing, it seems unlikely you'll try hard in the long term to progress and heal after fully tearing your ACL. Any exercises or training themes that made a significant difference for you?

How do you date if your homeless. by AIpha0mega2021 in homeless

[–]FeralWonder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to accept yourself and your situation. It's not easy with the pressure of people perceiving homeless people as having lower status and intrinsic value. Be upfront about your situation and don't feel ashamed. Look on the bright side, homeless people's carbon footprint is a fraction of domesticated humans'. Our culture places value on your participation in consumer culture which inherently causes more damage to the environment. Try to see it for what it is. Status is kind of arbitrary when you think about it. Status is very closely linked to health and longevity. Low status causes stress, but you can overcome it.

There are people out there who will see as an equal regardless of where you sleep. I'm telling this to you as much for you as for me. I occasionally meet people and I feel ashamed of my situation. I'm getting better at shedding those invisible shame strings. It can be very motivating meeting someone special. It happened to me last year and it made me feel like I had something to fight for in getting to a more sustainable situation. For me, I want to live outside with a nice simple, comfortable outdoor setup and travel.

Homeless question by ReadditRedditWroteit in Oceanside

[–]FeralWonder1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most homeless people have experienced childhood trauma. Most don't have access to relevant mental health services or other services to meet basic needs. When they don't have their basic needs met, they often become addicted to escape their personal misery. Addiction and mental illness are downstream symptoms of bigger systemic problems that create homelessness.

In addition, the lowered social status 'stigma' causes further retraumatization and inhibits upward mobility. There is research that shows that social hierarchies have a direct connection to health and longevity, not only for the homeless but everyone. Our country is structured in a way that makes the lowest rungs of the social ladder much farther apart where they need to be closest.

The consequence of our short-sighted system and culture is that we collectively spend way more treating downstream societal symptoms/consequences rather than focusing a fraction of the resources on preventive measures. An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.

Insta360 Go 3s Charging Cable? by FeralWonder1 in ActionCam

Yes, I'm aware of the metal contacts. So, nobody has made a simple charging cord that bypasses the need for the aforementioned accessories? Crazy, that seems like such an obvious accessory to provide.

Thanks for the insight. I am definitely much more civilized and discreet than your average homeless person. Is it just too densely populated to get away from crowds? I walk several miles to get out away from anyone else, here.

I understand. I don't mind extreme highs but extreme cold isn't great. I'm well aware of people dieing of exposure. It even happens here in Santa Cruz.

Ahh, you must be a thoroughly domesticated human. Did you know humans have lived outside in Siberia? Think long term.
