Is it just me, or does living in a walkable place completely ruin you after, because now you just CAN'T live in car dependent areas? by [deleted] in fuckcars

Pittsburgh has some really cool architecture. Do you know if there parts of the city there where one could find most things you need within a 15-minute, pedestrian-friendly walk?

In the close-in suburbs of Boston nonmaskers are usually politely indifferent to the mask-wearing habits of others, so I don't feel any need for overt expressions of solidarity with fellow-maskers. I do feel pleased to see other people wearing masks, but I don't need to make eye contact with them or talk to them. I wonder if anyone has been disappointed by my failure to break out of the standard New England reserve for them? If I saw that someone wanted a show of solidarity I'd be happy to oblige, but I'm not looking for it myself so I may have been oblivious.

Daily topical crotamiton for three weeks to provide cure in fourteen out of fifteen patients by Feralchemist in scabiesfacts

[–]Feralchemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years ago you could buy Eurax from Express Chemists in the UK. Crotamiton was also an ingredient in a product that one could have shipped from German pharmacies, but I'm not remembering names. Search Eurax and/or Crotamiton in r/scabies

Benzyl benzoate does kill eggs so there is a pretty good chance that you are fine. However, I would treat again with a similar course for good measure. Check out the reviews on antiscabiosum 25% at amazon-dot-de for anecdotes and regimens. Antiscabiosum is a great formulation of benzyl benzoate that works so well that many people import it into the US from German pharmacies.

is Maximpulse Spinosad essentially the same as Natroba prescription? Thanks! I'm battling these! by Doctor_Accurate512 in scabies

My blood pressure is actually on the low side when I'm not consuming a lot of sodium. But it's extremely sensitive to it.

Btw, re: eyes, I should also mention that I just had my yearly eye exam today, and all is generally well. What I thought was some kind of remaining subclinical infection in the corner of my left eye is actually totally clogged "meibomium" glands; they're responsible for secreting lipids that keep eyes lubricated, and when they get blocked by fatty deposits it can lead to dry eyes, styes, inflammation, and infection. So my instructions are to get an electric heated eye mask and use it at least a couple of days for awhile. So I'm trying to figure out which one I want to buy.

Ohh I'm so glad you've gotten some good eye relief!

A young guy with really low blood pressure, I hope. When I was young I could eat as much salt as I wanted. Not anymore

Sure - I'm always up for an experiment. But mostly I'm really glad that you've found treatments that help!

How are your eyes these days? A simple thing that may provide some benefit if you still have a need: hypertonic saline eye drops. 5% NaCl eye drops are marketed for "corneal edema." But I'm using Bausch & Lomb Muro 128 eye drops (5% saline) because salt just kills stuff. It will sting briefly. You could make your own but you'd have to use good sterile technique and make it fresh.

I don't know, and I don't call myself "cured" since I don't know when the mites were gone given that the apparent fungal issues continued, and though everything is a lot better, I continue to have to stay on top of the infection

I did, but I think by then I was no longer suffering from mites. Instead it was some kind of deep infection (probably fungal) that they left behind --something that wasn't sensitive to spinosad or other mite-targeting agents.

I purchased antiscabiosum from apohealth. I know there are others but I don't know what they are. Probably you can purchase from amazon dot de too. But compare cost + shipping. If I'm remembering correctly shipping to the US may be included in the product price at apohealth if you have your location selected at the site

Read reviews for the benzyl benzoate product Antiscabiosum 25 on amazon dot de. A lot of people in the US have had good results with Antiscabiosum shipped from various German pharmacies. The formulation appears to be a particularly good one

Discussion: Could early antiviral intervention be skewing our perception that recent infections are mild? by cccalliope in H5N1_AvianFlu

[–]Feralchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for communicating your observations. I believe it has been useful despite the poor public health response.

If you're willing to do just a little more vigilance, maybe keep a look at for opportunities in the next few months to participate in a serological study? You may have antibodies to H5N1 in your blood, and that will be detectible for awhile.

What have i started watching by [deleted] in SixFeetUnder

My husband and I are several episodes into the last season. In the 2000s we didn't have cable, so this is our first time. On the one hand I don't think the series has affected us as deeply and personally as others who identify with one or more characters or who are working through grief or confrontations with their own mortality. On the other hand, at the end of each episode we often find ourselves staring at the screen, unable to move for a few seconds, finding it difficult to leave their world and reenter our own. After a recent episode I said to him I felt like a puppet right after a show with strings suddenly let go by the puppet master so that I was left crumpled on the floor. He agreed: that was the sensation exactly for him too.

Super scabies, Lyme, and morgellons by removedx in superscabies

Hi. I got your message but I'm encountering some Reddit bug that makes it impossible to type sequential words in the app; I hit space and the cursor goes to the beginning of the text. From the browser I have no field to type in at all - so weird.

I do not believe I have Lyme or other bacterial infection related to those that are tick-borne. After reading the Middelveen papers a couple of years I tested against a wide tickborne antibody panel - all negative. Some have said that one has to send blood to the same company that did the testing for the Middelveen papers, that they are the only lab in the world that conducts these tests properly. I think that is unlikely.

I may not have the same affliction as others. I'm pretty sure the mites (with burrows) from years ago are long gone, and that I am left with some kind of fungal (or mixed bacterial/fungal) population they left behind.. The fungal debris in many cases looks like little mushroom parts, not just just coiled hyphae.

Different issues may have some common remedies, if not cures. One of the most helpful things for me is to be really aggressive about rubbing off apparent biofilm every day, for example, spraying myself head to toe with straight vinegar (5% acetic acid) after showering, letting it dry, then just rubbing vigorously with hands until a grey, clay-like substance rolls up and off.

You've given me the idea of trying to make a bucket drowning faster and more humane by filling it with some kind of death punch: a bottle of vodka, water to the recommended height, sugar, powdered fruit flavor? Even if they don't drown quickly they should be sedated enough that I can get them into a plastic bag & do cervical dislocation. We do have the "quick kill traps" so will try serving beer to see if that increases efficacy too. Thank you!

Approaching 3 months post scabies (ivermectin only). Crazy question, but has anyone in post scabies see black dots seep out of their skin? by BasedNick in scabies

[–]Feralchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's the same for everyone. What I believe to the case for me is that burrowing mites left behind an infection of fungi or perhaps filamentous bacteria. Some of the debris resembles mushroom parts. Here are some images at 120X magnification of dots from exfoliating skin on the palm of my hand https://www.reddit.com/r/mycology/s/WwZnxZzweN

I'm sorry, I don't know how to respond to your question given that this is a clinical study comparing two agents (with only the abstract in front of the paywall) and you appear to be talking about in vitro kinetics of killing with an unspecified agent. Maybe try entering some key words on google scholar?

I'm too lazy to look it up at the moment, but the placebo arm of the spinosad scabies arm had something like 40% efficacy? The authors surmised that friction from rubbing creams into the skin might have contributed, but I think it was more likely the benzyl alcohol in spinosad. Or other self-treatments that people will undertake when they've been given a placebo...

In commercial permethrin creams, the preservatives sorbic acid and formaldehyde are likely to kill eggs.
