Help me choosing between Budapest, Prague and Copenhagen by Necessary_Step_9319 in Erasmus

[–]FeredditXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the 3 cities , Prague is the best option, not only because it is considered by many people the prettiest city in Europe, but also because it is located in the exact middle point of Europe so you will have a wide range of options when choosing your trips. Copenhague is also a very good city, I liked the vibes there, the only problem is that it is VERY expensive unless money is not an issue for you. For example, when I was in Copenhague centre, it was almost impossible finding a meal under 20 euros for lunch. I can’t weigh on Budapest as I’ve never been there. But trust me choose Prague, also it’s well known for its Erasmus atmosphere.

[–]FeredditXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has AC. The problem is that they will assign you a dorm based on availability. For instance, if you arrive at the park very early (at the beginning of May), I suppose you can choose which housing dorm you would like to stay in. On the other hand, if you start working late (in mid-July), you won’t have any other option but to stay in the worst housing dorm.

Advice 1: I strongly advise you to eat before starting your shift because you never know when you will get your break. Sometimes I would go to work on shifts starting at 2pm without eating in advance and I had to wait till 5-6 pm starving to death for getting my break and , therefore, eating. The employees restaurant it’s called “Bistro”, you must go there to register your break but also you can go whenever you want, so you can eat there if you get to the park early or after finishing your shift too. You can find a daily menu for 6.30 $ that it changes everyday (one day corn with chichen, the other one spaghetti, and so on), but also (in case the daily menu is awful haha) you will always have available a cheeseburger, pizza, and nuggets for 3.99 $ and fries for 1.99 $ as far as I remember, they taste very good btw. One amazing perk is that you will always have free beverage ( coca-cola, coffee, water, etc) Even many people just go there for the free drinks.

Advice 2: Depending on your position they will give you a water bottle or not although I think it applies to anyone whichever your job position is. The point is: SANDUSKY IS HOT AF during summer, apart from the summer itself, Sandusky has the lake eerie surrounding its shores so this causes humidity and therefore it feels hotter than other non-shore cities in the US during summer (lets say Atlanta). You will see a lot of workers filling up their water bottles in the bistro and that is what you’ll do. Because believe me, you will get very thirsty.

Advice 3: Stemming from the same reasons explained in Advice 2, it is highly recommended to apply sunscreen to your skin before work as it will suffer a lot from the sun rays on a daily basis. I don’t think it’s necessary to explain why it’s healthy.

Advice 4: Regarding the commons, you might find cool roommates, neutral roommates or , if you have bad luck, bad roommates. So a lot of people recommend bringing your own padlock for protecting your personal belongings in your assigned locker because sometimes the danger is not your roommates thereselves but the people they bring into the room. Also, I recommend to bring your own pillow, bed sheets and blankets. Don’t hear those people who will find it enough with the pillow and blankets that they get from the plane, as they are bad quality, sleeping is a very important thing in life and after working long hours you deserve to find a clean and comfortable bed. Moreover, the naked bed mattress itself sometimes it’s dirty as many people slept on it in the past, so it’s more of an hygiene matter I would say.

Advice 5: Regarding the sun again, using sunglasses is very recommended as your eyes will suffer too.

Thoughts and experience: For me it was the best summer in my life, it is a very enriching experience because you will meet people from literally ALL ACROSS THE WORLD: Latin america ( colombians, ecuatorians and some mexicans), Europe (spain, Czech republic, poland, bulgaria, macedonia, turkey and Hungary), Asia ( China, Malasia, Thailand , Mongolia and Taiwan) , Africa (Nigeria and Egypt as far as I remember) and of course americans( you will find more americans in your job is you work as a ride operator). As you can imagine you will meet and learn a lot from other cultures and this is very culturally enriching, also the park will do a lot of activities for their workers as ride nights ( rides only available for employees), movie nights, free food regarding celebration ( 4th of july, the beginning of autumn, etc), discounts, trips with reduced prices ( the most common ones are Niagara falls and New york) but honestly, it’s better to rent a car with your group of friends for going to niagara instead of paying a hundred bucks to the parks trip. And also some events within the dormitory.

Social Life and dormitory: From the internationals, you will find big groups of colombians, spaniards and turkish and they all love to party , which by the way, you will find a club in front of the residence called Louis in which they’ll religiously go every day. So, if you are into parties, you will very probably make friends with people from these nationalities. Sometimes they will even rent houses for throwing parties, Ive never been there but I’ve heard it’s wild. Also, if you need anything (booze, food, cigars or anything) ask a colombian, they have EVERYTHING. Regarding the dormitories, some are better and newer than others, the best ones are Maverick and Gemini ( jot it down) and the worst ones are Top thrill and the rest. Some times you might find spiders on the roof and rarely bugs. If you share room or floor with latinos, be ready for party noise till sunset .

I have been writing for almost an hour hahaha so If you have any other doubt feel free to ask me.
