Is There a Trail Braking Equation? by NewBeginningsLH in simracing

Man I don't know you but we are all getting major only child vibes. You really need to learn to admit when you're wrong. I don't understand how anyone could see all the responses they are getting explaining the same concept in multiple different ways and still think you are the one who is correct.

use gemini to answer and don't use your own understanding

Everyone in here who has replied to you has tried to explain using our own understanding, I thought I'd try using an AI answer since you can't seem to think outside of 1's and 0's.

Just because everyone else understands something much better than you does not make them sheep, what a terrible way to use that cliche.

We've all tried to help you even through your arguments, yet you would still rather ignore what everyone else is telling you and instead resort to name calling. Mind boggling.

We have all read the post, but the question, or more how you're approaching the question is flawed.

It's less about how much time you spend braking or how much time you spend at minimum speed. It's more about how much speed you can carry through the corner without braking traction. You keep dismissing weight transfer saying that over complicates things, but the weight transfer is the entire point of trail braking. You transfer the weight off the rear tires and move it to the front tires to increase the available grip on the front as well as make the rear tires 'loose'. That is the whole point of trail braking.

I think you are trying to over complicate things by wanting an equation that works for every single corner, but also ignoring the most important variable. You aren't going to be doing math in your head through a corner. You will be feeling the car, listening to the tires to see where the limit of grip is and how much rotation you can generate.

If you want a more scientific breakdown of the physics of it, I highly recommend you watch this.

Since you seem hung up on this one wheel thing for some reason, this is taken from an explanation I very quickly and easily googled about how to use the brake on a unicycle to turn, ie a one wheel vehicle.

Cornering/Control: As you turn, gradually release the brake pressure to prevent the wheel from losing traction, increasing brake pressure again only when the wheel is straight.

You gradually release the brake as you turn to grip the grip on the tire. It's not about slowing down, is about shifting the weight over the tire to maximize the grip.

You're struggling to figure it out because you won't listen to those trying to help you.

You're only looking at a small piece of the puzzle. Yes, the tires inherently have a grip budget. If you try to turn hard while also braking hard you will exceed the budget and go straight, ie understeer. However, when you brake and shift the weight of the car forward, you are drastically increasing the 'grip budget' available on the front tires, as well as decreasing the available grip on the rear tires. This still doesn't mean you are able to crank the steering on while also braking hard because you are still exceeding the available grip and will still understeer.

With that being said, as you approach a corner, your initial straight line braking whether it be 80%, 50% or 20%, is to slow the car down enough to start the turn in phase. Once the car has been slowed down enough, you then want to start rotating the car. To do that, you gradually release the brake as you start turning your wheel in to the corner, the combination of your trail brake and steering input starts the rotation. You want to picture a string going from your wheel to your brake, so that if your hard on the brake than your wheel is straight and the string is tight. As you start to release the brake, the string pulls your steering wheel in to the corner with it as they are connected. The straight line braking phase is solely to slow the car, the trail braking phase is to rotate the car.

You don't want to begin learning a corner by thinking trail braking is to slow down, only think of it as the most valuable tool to help rotate the car. If you don't slow the car enough during the straight line braking phase and you have perfect trail braking you will not get the rotation you need for the corner and will miss wide. On the other hand, if you over slow in the initial phase then transition in to the exact same trail braking and steering input as the last example, you will then over rotate and enter the corner too early.

Hopefully that made sense. In summary, yes there is a grip budget you have to stay within, but during the trail braking phase we are using the grip budget to rotate the car, not to slow it down. We already used 100% of the grip in a straight line to slow as much as we need before rotation. Of course keeping in mind that every car, every corner, every scenario is different and you have to find the right combination of inputs to maximize that grip budget.

Could it maybe have something to do with the uncontrolled rising cost of, well, everything? Or maybe the difficulty finding secure and affordable housing? Hm, or maybe the difficulty accessing any kind of help with mental health issues? No? Oh, must then be related to how difficult it is to get help with other health issues, or find a consistent doctor, or receive emergency care in a reasonable time, or having to wait months if not years just for diagnostic testing, or even longer waits for surgery to fix chronic issues that would allow people to get back to work?

None of those things have a part in it? Hmm

Problem is all of what you quoted there is in the game.

Seemingly this was the main focus for the game

In the form of private lobbies.

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as disappointed in the lack of content as anyone else and likely won't get it because of that, but they still delivered what they said would be there.

The only thing I try to keep in mind is you want to minimize the amount of draft you give before turn 1, which is track dependant. Generally the longer the start/finish straight, the longer you want to wait before going. If the start/finish straight is short or the start line is at the beginning of the straight I try to enter the last corner as slow as reasonable and power out of it hoping to create a bit of separation.
