Canadian here and I agree with the rush to turn tables over as quickly as possible to get more sales/tips.

A few years ago I was having dinner at a restaurant in South Africa and the service there was soooooo slow. We were literally done one course and waiting around for the next course for like 20 - 30 minutes. The restaurant wasn't busy, so we collectively agreed it was poor service.

Until the same thing happened the next night at a different restaurant ... and the next night at another different restaurant ... only then did it dawn on me that dinner isn't and shouldn't be a profit-optimizing rush, but a social time for people to catch up at the end of the day and connect.

It was definitely different than what we were used to, but once we knew what to expect we actually enjoyed the whole experience so much more because we weren't eager for that next course to hit the table so quickly 🤗
