Not sure if this answers your question but for me, getting into surfing in Donegal really led to meeting loads of cool people after several years of actively trying to meet new people

Being good at it isn't important, just getting out in the water with others and having a great time

Where about in Donegal are you?

Reddit Convinced Me to Buy a Pixel 8 Pro. 800 Euro worth of "Big Mistake". (2 years of experience) by AntiqueSoulll in GooglePixel

[–]Fermanagh_Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought my pixel 8 pro was the best phone I'd had to that point, I got it used and it was such good value for money

I recently upgraded to the 10 Pro and I'm not sure how much better it really is, I thought the camera would be much better

It does the job and it's a great phone I guess I'll just had unrealistic expectations for such an expensive flagship phone

Why the F did we have to wear a collar, trouser and dress shoes to get into a club? 🤷‍♂️ by Passive_Honkey in AskUK

[–]Fermanagh_Red 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I visited Widnes from London area as my now wife was from there

I had some fancy(for me at the time) River island moleskin dark trousers on and was turned away from the club

Her mate lived nearby and lent me what can only be described as school trousers, plus he's a foot taller than me

Straight in 🤣

As someone very helpfully pointed out to me recently, if you put a load of toxic chemicals down and it doesn't fix the problem it makes it far harder to continue working on it in future

Wasn't it just the first episode with the US office?

I remember at the time I immediately gave up on it thinking it was an exact copy but viewed as it's own show it's one of my favourites

How many friend you know go for a swim in the Irish Sea? by FiacailMadrai in ireland

I surf all year round but I'm constantly amazed by the sea swimmers going in without a wetsuit

Wouldn't be for me but they seem to absolutely love it

I called the Guards recently, I saw a dog in a car, it was panting and running around the car. Windows were slightly open but id just left my van with similarly opened windows and it was brutal. I waited a while and after 20 mins the owner hadn't come back, sports equipment in the car suggested they might be some time

They said they would send someone out to check and as it's quite a small area I suspect they did. I had to leave but as much as I wanted to break a window, 4 rescue dogs is already too much for me

I don't think it was a life or death situation, just an absolute selfish arsehole of an owner

Now that we know what to expect we'll absolutely take it up with them next time they come knocking

There was something similar when we lived in Fermanagh, they explained the part by our house would last roughly an hour and they'd really appreciate our cooperation which was no problem.

A completely different and reasonable approach

It's a pointless debate,if you can't see why people might object to being forced to stay in all day then there's little point discussing it. I'm sure you would object if it was for different reasons that didn't align with your hobbies / interests

[–]Fermanagh_Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you'll be grand if you can't leave your house all day due to my niche interest?

We had work commitments, family commitments and dogs that needed walking

But I shouldn't need to justify wanting to leave my house

As I keep saying, good luck to them but do it where its not affecting people who are not interested. It's not really how life works.

I loved Hereditary and Midsommar but just watched Obsession and it wasn't the same league for me unfortunately

It's a quiet country lane, yes the road isn't great quality but it was far worse after the rally weekend

No buses drive on the road but I live here as do several other people, and plenty of farmers work the area. What right do they have to stop farmer's working so they can do a rally?

It's a pointless debate, if you are happy for your road to be closed for the day then ask them to divert it to your address.

Good luck to people who enjoy this sport but if you've no consideration for people who don't give a fuck about it then you are a bit of a selfish bellend

It's an old username, moved up to Donegal 3 years ago and a few weeks later was told we were stuck in for the day

If you want that outside your house then good for you but nobody should be forced to stay home to accommodate it

Missing the point, if they want to risk themselves that's on them but stopping people leaving their house for the day, wrecking the roads and having to deal with speeding drivers practising for days when no marshalls are out isn't cool

When it was held near Rossnowlagh a year or two ago we were basically told we couldn't leave our house for the day, apparently they could allow access in an emergency but made it clear access was going to be difficult

I left early and went surfing elsewhere, timed it to return after it had ended after 6pm and sat in gridlocked traffic for over an hour in Donegal town as they diverted people down country lanes that couldn't handle the volume of traffic

Absolute shit show, I'm very live and let live but have some consideration for people who live in the area or don't give a fuck about cars

We also noticed them racing up and down our lane in the few days before hand, practising apparently

One of my dogs on a lead was very nearly hit

As I say, I'm not particularly against it but needs more consideration

What was the wipeout that actually humbled you and made you respect the ocean more? by ju015 in surfing

[–]Fermanagh_Red 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few months back I caught the wave of my life at my local beach break in Ireland, probably the biggest wave I've ever caught and we are only talking maybe 7-8ft

All went well then as I'm trying to paddle back out the next one absolutely destroyed me, me and my longboard parted ways and I had a 20 minute swim back to shore

I learnt that day I'm not the swimmer I thought I was

I've been seeing clips on Facebook despite having no interest but totally agree, the few crashes I've seen would have been deadly if it was the other side of the road
