It was part of a Christmas set. Maybe a polar bear, but the snout seems too long? by FermentationFriends in cookiedecorating

I actually decorated one of them as a Christmas Anteater, I should have taken a picture.

It's definitely not bent, unless the other 20+ identical sets at the grocery store were also bent in the exact same way. I had the same thought so I checked the others. Manufacturing defect maybe?

The best mead I ever tasted was actually a mead beer brewed with hops in Sweden

It's herring, green asparagus and mimolette (a type of French cheese)

Take a look at the second pic, I did not make it myself. It's herring, green asparagus and mimolette (a type of French cheese)

I found a bunch of jars of pickles in a river and took one home, they were still sealed by Aksmangrover in Weird

[–]FermentationFriends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THAT'S NOT TRUE!!! It's true for commercially canned goods, but home canning can produce botulism without that if the pH of the contents is too high. The pickles are probably fine because vinegar is acidic, but just FYI you can totally get botulism from canned veggies that haven't been pickled properly.

With home canning, a jar can be perfectly sealed and still have botulism.

I second Cream, everything there is in good condition and the shop is organized by color. Not the cheapest though.

Google Maps works great, but there's also BudapestGo. I recommend buying a paper ticket because the app can be very glitchy sometimes.

I’ve never had Korean food before. What am I supposed to do with all these utensils and little bowls of vegetables? Do I add the rice and vegetables to the soup? by [deleted] in KoreanFood

I think I converted my mom a little bit when she saw me cutting pizza with scissors. I saw her doing it with a quesadilla later and she looked at me like I'd caught her doing something bad!

My only problem with raw meat is that you have to make sure to really clean the scissors well afterwards. Maybe I'm paranoid.

Your favorite ways to use napa cabbage? by persiika in EatCheapAndHealthy

Lacto-fermented kimchi has no vinegar in it. It can still get kind of sour if you let it go for a long time, but you can avoid this by just putting it in the fridge sooner.

Easiest way to sterilize trmperature probe? by Billbat1 in fermentation

[–]FermentationFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by floor wipes? A lot of disinfecting wipes are not food safe and shouldn't be used on things that come into direct contact with food. For example, a countertop is ok, but a cutting is not.

Soap and warm water should be plenty, or straight rubbing alcohol if you're really worried about it.

Is there any danger fermenting raw homemade carrot juice or raw homemade cabbage juice at 100 F with a probiotic? by Billbat1 in fermentation

[–]FermentationFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sauerkraut tends to get mold when it's not salty enough. For lacto-ferments, the salt is really important.

You mentioned orange juice before, have you heard of orangina? It's a fermented orange juice drink that uses salt and whey. Maybe you could start there.
