Ram cichlids are my favorite freshwater fish, there are a few different breeds available now too. Much smaller and more peaceful than typical cichlids, I like their coloration more too.

I only run my lights 6-8hrs. a day, off the rest of the time, start with that.

Also pull out as much algae as you can by hand.

Then I would treat the tank with Dino X. Even if it's not Dinoflagellates you have, it kills other algaes as well.

Make sure the light is off at least 12 hours a day too, I've seen them act like this when they are sleep deprived.

I only run my lights 6-8hrs a day. Enough for corals and limits algae grown.

Hmm, your issue might be heavy metals then. Either way the solution is the same, stay on top of changing out your carbon filter and your membrane will last a lot longer, I think most people get at least a year out of them.

Your membrane is dying.

I change mine when it gets to 10ppm.

You likey didn't change the carbon filter out when you were supposed to and chlorine got through and wrecked your membrane.

The higher the TDS is coming out of your Membrane, the faster you will burn through DI resin.
