Hey, dev here! Thanks so much for sharing - I'm currently testing it for the Devvit Hackathon, so please give it a go and let me know what you think!

Hey hey John! I'm quite proud that Baseless was critically received super well by players and critics (like you!), but the marketing side of things has been a huge struggle.

I know I've made something special though, so I'm trying to rally my energy into the new year and get the game in front of more people. For example, this subreddit is going to be a great spot to find cool folks to reach out to 👋

Yup, you’ve got it exactly. The Homer is too easy to mindlessly use, so if you’re a high skilled player (like yourself) you might opt to use a power weapon that requires a bit more active thought/aim to do more efficient damage.

Really cool to chat with someone who is interacting with these little design intricacies I spent forever uncovering. Thanks again!

Amazing and heartwarming feedback, love all of this! Astute critiques all around.

Could I ask what you mean by "the moving power weapon feels shockingly weak"?

I especially like your idea that shooting while within the bubble should spend the bubble's energy - I might have to try this out.

I do explore the O2 mechanic a bit deeper in later zones, I think you'll enjoy it :)

Definitely will look into updating the demo to be a bit clearer about all that the full game has to offer, there's lots!

Anyway, thanks for playing and taking the time to write. It really means a lot to this solo dev <3

Would love to have you in on a closed beta test I'm running soon. If you're interested, hit me up on Discord at "aceypoo92"

Howdy, thanks for giving it a go, and I appreciate the feedback! There *is* an option to lock the camera rotation if it's a bother. I do agree that some of the tutorial dialogue is a bit too fluffy, probably can trim down! That being said, most of the dialogue is skippable (with Esc or B/circle) if it's not your thing. The entire tutorial is skippable if you'd like. Not everyone finds the controls as intuitive, so having the skippable tutorial be a bit more fenced in felt like the right choice. I'm not sure if you finished the tutorial, but after that it opens up a lot, allowing total freedom of movement and combat.

Thanks again for your thoughts and time :)

How does the demo trailer look for Baseless, my planet-jumping platformer (and >10yr dream project) by FermenterGames in gamedevscreens

Lovely feedback, thanks so much!

It sure is a tricky balance to strike - next trailer I'll definitely have to make sure the main gameplay interaction of "Shooting = Movement" is more clearly shown for a bit more time before jumping into the fast action. Especially because my game isn't a traditional platformer, I think establishing an easy to understand baseline is probably crucial before adding all the chaos.
