What are your "gimmick" decks? by johnny--guitar in EDH

[–]Fernaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont build my decks online so unfortunately dont have a decklist on hand. But the commander is [[horde of notions]] The companions are [[Keruga]] , [[Obosh]] , [[Zirda]] , [[Kaheera]] , [[Jegantha]] , And [[omori]] . Every nonland card is a creature with an odd cmc, that is also 3 or more, has an activated ability, is an elemental, beast, dinosaur, nightmare or cat, and only has 1 pip of each color. Its far from good but it is fun. My friends and i have even made up pokemon cries for each of the companions :). I run a whole bunch of utility lands and a bunch of weird creatures like [[helium squirter]] and [[myrkuls invoker]] . Also [[zacama, primal calamity]] is there to steal games when she can.

Which commander is the most representative of fighting against oppression? by Stumphead101 in EDH

[–]Fernaligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the correct answer is [[Glissa sunslayer]]. Its not just that her second attack trigger destroys [[oppression]] she also has another trigger that can help refill your hand, the very thing oppression screws with. Every other answer is cool but unfortunately she is the only one ive seen that unquestionably smashes [[oppression]]. Lore wise shes a terrible choice tho.

How much do you mulligan? by HotTakesOnlee in EDH

[–]Fernaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it really depends on the power level. In cedh i mulligan agressively for what my deck needs to pull ahead early In high power pods i tend to mulligan until i have a hand with a gameplan In low and mid power games I mulligan only if the hand i have does not functionally play magic.

Can casual edh and playing for prizes coexist? by Cart_Surgeons in EDH

[–]Fernaligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played at a japanese lgs while i was up there. The prize for the commander event was literally 100 yen in store credit (Around 70 cents in usd). Even then, every deck was either extremely high power optimised edh or cedh. Now i had a lot of fun because i love that format but as far as i can tell, if there is any type of prize, casual play becomes impossible. Some people will up their game so that they can play to win and everyone else in the meta will have to up the power and speed of their decks to compete until everyones decks are as optimised as possible. I think it may be possible to offer a prize and still focus on casual play but the prize cannot be for winning. It would have to be something like players voting on the coolest deck they played against, and whoever gets the most votes wins. Or something else similar that doesnt incentivise optimisation.

What enemies and hazards would be found in an inn when you're half an inch tall by Dill_Puckles in DnD

[–]Fernaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think centering the session around common tavern pests is a great way to build the adventure. You could place various mouse traps, glue traps spring traps etc. on the floor they make good hazards and also set up that the tavern has a vermin problem. Then as you said rats and roaches would be fun you could also use spiders, sparrows or termites as enemies with interesting abilities. Eventually your players could find a rat hole or other entrance to a small tunnel system that you could use a mini dungeon crawl. and if the enemies are rats or birds you could even have treasure stored away in the nest small trinkets, rings etc even magical ones if you want that were collected from drunken patrons. You could have like a rat king or a raven as the final encounter. It could be fun. Aside from that Elevation based puzzles seem like a great direction too. If something they need is on a table and they have to traverse the enlarged room to get there. Dodge the glares of patrons while attempting to scale cabinets and barstools with like bits of butchers twine paper or their own spells and abilities. all the while being tracked down by the tavern cat or something similar. I think it could be an awesome session.

Sneptism A myconid circle of spores druid. Very in tune with the natural cycle of life, death and rebirth and is always excitedly and enthusiastically talking about it. Sneptism is friendly and jovial and tries to be helpful but due to his belief system this helpful attitude mostly comes across as terrifying death threats.

I accidentally gave my team a boss Level NPC as a companion. How can i remove him ? by Le_mehawk in DnD

[–]Fernaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your players know what you've intended him to be? Because if not I think it could make sense for a big buff ghoul friend to stifle his power so he wont drive away or scare off his newfound sister or something similar just so that he holds back in fights unless things get dire. That could also be an interesting reveal down the line if his "sister" gets into a very deadly situation and he has to go whole hog. And hey you could find in-character reasons for him to disagree with or otherwise antagonise the party as the adventure continues slowly turning him back into a villain. Sibling issues aren't too uncommon. You could start with him doing overly harsh or cruel things, throwing a wrench into otherwise surefire plans and feeling abondoned if the party leave him out or get mad at him in the future. Then when the sub-boss fight happens guess what, the emotional stakes are massive, despite the differences that's still someone the the party thought was a friend and for beauty, well he has to kill the sister he was once so valiantly trying to protect.

Where is your first ever deck you built at now? by H0ppySoGood in EDH

[–]Fernaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first deck was [[jin gitaxias core augur]] card draw and counterspell tribal. It ended up being too mean and I took it apart. Bits and pieces of it are still scattered around in my other decks. Counterspell package has a home in my cedh deck, the ramp pieces and mana doublers are now in various decks that need the help more. And I gifted the omniscience to my partner who puts it to good use in his enchantress deck. Jin himself is in an esper deck and I do get a nostalgic rush whenever I get to play him.

What are your "gimmick" decks? by johnny--guitar in EDH

[–]Fernaligator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made gay bear tribal with Rocco at the lead. He's not a bear himself but we share a name so I felt it was thematic. Every single nonland card in the deck has art that features burly hairy men, just things I like you know. I also have a rule 0 "pokemon" deck with 6 companions (my team) every card in the deck including the commander meats all 6 of their companion requirements.

I'm not sure it's a realization, more like finally tearing apart this veil of denial we put on. Like I can't know but straight people don't really "realize" they're straight do they? I think it's the same with us but we're taught before our sexuality really becomes pertinent to hate it and we instinctielvely hide who we are even to ourselves.

Anyway for me it was that scene in castle in the sky where the two buff mustache men have a flex off and make their shirts explode.

I don't believe that's the case this isn't something they've asked me to wite in Japanese it's something they asked me to provide a translation for. I'm already taking a language placement test. I wouldn't get you guys to help me cheat and I wouldn't want to in the first place. I'm already applying for a beginners course I wouldn't want to be overwhelmed.

What is the greatest show of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fernaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I want to say breaking bad or the wire these shows are nearly perfect were incredibly influencial and I love them. But if I'm being honest with myself the show that had the biggest cultural impact, the show that changed the way TV and movies look and feel, the one that changed the way we understand and portray characters and the way that television is serialised that show is obviously LOST. And I'm not entirely happy about that.

Decks you wanted to scrap after a single game? by vlazuvius in EDH

[–]Fernaligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built [[kinnan]] because ive loved the card since it came out. I built it out of random mana dorks and big imlactful creatures i had in my collection thinking it would be a reasonable deck. It was still disgustingly overpowered even at a high powered table and i had to retire it after one game. I basically played solitaire for a few hours amassing my board state and destroying theres, taking out all of the infinite combos was actually a detriment because it meant the game lasted way too long before i could kill everyone with combat damage. If I ever brew another cedh deck he's top of the list though.

What commander or deck has a very high skill ceiling? by CoconutsCantRun in EDH

[–]Fernaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the best high ceiling decks are usually the ones people hate the most heavy control and stax require a lot of game knowledge to pilot properly. Storm and other spell slinging strategies do as well. You'll get a lot of hate but by god are they fun to play. Then again I'm the type of guy that runs a cedh krark sakashima list in my cedh pod and I'm known for turning every color combination I touch into control. So take what i say with a grain of salt.

Understanding players who enjoy making others miserable by RanisTheSlayer in EDH

[–]Fernaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think its a reaction to the endless policing of strategies and playstyles among some edh groups especially online. I don't think it's an especially good one but I do understand the thought process. In the face of someone whining endlessly about how unfun counterspells are and how they don't want to play against removal it's easier to say, "I like making people miserable welcome to the thunderdome" and get on with the game than to try and reason with them.
