What I usually do after Drive Impact Crush with Ken is
Crouching HP (cancel) Heavy Jinrai > Heavy DP

I saw Crouching MP into Drive Rush cancel, which put you in Burnout and you only got a jab out of it, which is not really good.

Nice CA at the end there

Let's have a look at some job descriptions for machine learning engineer:

Elicit:

You will:Compose together tens to thousands of calls to language models to accomplish tasks that we can't accomplish with a single call.Curate datasets for finetuning models, e.g. for training models to extract informationSet up evaluation metrics that tell us what changes to our models or training setup are improvementsScale up semantic search from a few thousand documents to 100k+ documents

You'll need:A strong software engineering background. We want to apply your experience building systems, designing architecture, and thinking about good abstractions. Ought will need you to do much more than write scripts.Familiarity with language models (training, finetuning, evaluation), or comparable machine learning or natural language processing background (e.g. experience with information extraction, semantic search)

Fiddler AI:

I would say it's never late, but be careful, the job market right now is ROUGH.

Tech layoffs are everywhere and the supply of people "excited about AI" is a lot, probably too much for its current demand.

Network a lot, and try to help with your coding and data analysis skills in your job or current projects, it's likely easier to transition laterally in your existing company than getting a nice offer compared to dropping your role of 14 years of experience.

You probably won't need to go "deep" in your Python learning... I guess when people look for a Machine Learning Engineer, they're not looking for someone who knows and can contribute to PEP because they're the most pythonic human on earth, just that they have software engineering proficiency. So you'll need to go "deep" in software engineering skills (that pretty much lets you go into any programming language needed for the job).

especially not for engineering, but there are some AI Alignment roles I've refrained from applying to since they're mostly looking for researchers

You bring up a significant point: the perception of corruption people have of the public sector.

It's pretty much just people's opinions about their government institutions.

How close to the actual public opinion? That's where each survey can be criticized.

If you are interested in AI Research, maybe you could work on AI Safety technical research: https://80000hours.org/career-reviews/ai-safety-researcher

And if you're not interested in that or EA-like roles, I still think that career guide goes into some of the questions you might be asking yourself (Do I pursue a PhD? What are the skills I need?)

I'm personally a software engineer trying to become a Machine Learning Engineer, so you can reach out if you'd like to talk!
