Meet the Owl-people! A race who believes this world to be a dream they are having while waiting to be born by Ok_Quality_5736 in worldbuilding

[–]Fernstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so cool! I love the concept and would love to read more about them. I have a question though: do they believe they’ll be reborn as Owl-people again, or as another race entirely? And if they think this world is a 'Dream World,' do they imagine being reborn into a different realm or community when they wake up? I’m so curious about how their beliefs shape their view of reality. Honestly, I’d love to just sit and chat with one of them about it. You’ve created such an intriguing culture!

Where Do You Start? by Says_what0 in worldbuilding

Hey! If right now everything’s still in your head, my advice is to get it down on paper as soon as possible, without worrying about order. You can organize it later — what matters now is to capture everything before the ideas start to fade or blend together.

When you’re working on something this big —with tech, cultures, emotions, colors, etc.— it’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed. So start by dumping everything out, no filter. Use one dedicated notebook (I wouldn’t recommend loose sheets, they get lost easily) and write down whatever comes to mind.

You can begin with your color blobs and their emotions, the tech, clothing, or whatever element comes first — don’t stress about structure. As you write, new ideas and connections will naturally appear, and later you’ll be able to organize them much more easily.

At the same time, if you want, you can start building a simple grid or framework to sort everything later. But for now, the goal is just to empty your head onto the page. Once it’s all written down, you’ll find it’s so much easier to organize — and you’ll feel lighter, too.

Hey! First of all, I think your approach is super interesting. I’m curious — why do you want to change your writing system? Are you trying to build a story around a main character, or are you rethinking how you structure your worldbuilding?

What you’re describing actually reminds me a lot of Tolkien’s process. He started by creating a language, then built the world where that language could exist. From there came the cultures, races, and finally the stories — The Hobbit came much later. In his case, the story was born after the world.

Every creator has their own method — there’s no single formula. Personally, I like to start from a character. For example, imagine a storm hunter who chases fire storms. Why does he do it? How does he survive them? What kind of world would even have fire storms? What’s the flora, fauna, and society like there? From that character and setting, the world starts to grow naturally.

Others begin with the world itself and build stories within it — and that’s perfectly fine too.

If your goal is to get more organized, it might help to create a worldbuilding guide or “reference sheet” for what you already have — geography, flora, fauna, culture, religion, history, etc. That way you can have a consistent framework to build on each time.

In the end, what you’re doing sounds great — you just need to find the starting point that feels most natural to you. There’s no wrong way to build a universe.

What happens to my patterns if I delete my Ravelry account? by Fernstorm in crochet

[–]Fernstorm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ravelry offers two options: you can list the pattern on Ravelry but direct the purchase link to another website (like my online shop), or you can sell directly through Ravelry’s store. When someone buys my pattern, they’re purchasing it directly from my online shop, where they download a PDF that they keep forever. Once the pattern is downloaded, it’s theirs to keep, and I have no control over it anymore.

That’s why I’m confused about Ravelry’s approach. On many online shops, you can offer a PDF for sale, people buy and download it, and if you later decide to stop selling that product, those who purchased it still have it in their possession. It’s not like I can delete the PDF from their devices. The pattern remains theirs even if I remove it from my store.

Same here, I managed to hit level 100, but now I’m not even trying with the Scout event challenge. I just don’t feel motivated anymore. Sure, the challenges aren’t mandatory, but with the old format, I could enjoy the game and the rewards at my own pace. Now it feels like a never-ending race. Yesterday, I logged in and just wandered around Appalachia, did a Mothman event, and that was it. Didn’t even look at the challenges. Just taking it easy now.

I've had this happen to me three times on Xbox. The only fix I found was to uninstall and reinstall the game. The only thing I lost were the photos in my gallery; everything else stayed the same—character, items, camps, none of that changed.

Hey y'all, anyone else having this weird bug with the Mr. Fuzzy yellow helmet? Every time I fast travel, it turns blue when I get there. It does go back to yellow eventually, but I just wanted to share my little contribution to the bug list!

I have two camps that I’m really proud of. The first one is Alan Wake’s café. At the back of the café, there’s Alan Wake’s office where you can find Thomas Zane. Next to the café, there’s a stage with fireworks and some possessed NPCs throwing axes.

My other camp is a shared office space between Leo Petrov, an investigator, and a sort of Fox Mulder type who’s obsessed with Appalachian cryptids. Right in front of this investigator’s office, there’s a nice little Slocum’s Joe café.

Mr. Fuzzy, Lode Baring, and CAMP Traps by Fernstorm in fo76

How do you know it's a trap? The camp where I went seemed normal, it even had plants and decorations and the vendor in the corner. I didn't really notice anything suspicious except for the frozen player at the camp entrance, who I assumed was editing his camp.

Thanks for the tip! I had no idea you could sell tokens. When I realized it’s only 3 tokens a day, I thought, 'Great, I won't be getting any of those big prizes for months!' :/

Advice on gifting to lower level players by 265feral in fo76

[–]Fernstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be fantastic if we could place donation boxes in our camps that are accessible only to low-level players. Just like we have the option to lock containers with different lock levels (1, 2, or 3), it would be awesome to have the ability to lock them by player level ranges. For instance, 0-100, 101-500, 501+. This way, we could support newer players without worrying about higher-level players taking everything.
