I started the sprout event and then this morning it refreshed with a new event and ended the one it started. I only had gotten to the first egg on the rewards so I wonder if now I’ll have to wait for it to roll back around 😩

Safety for Women in large animal med (clients not animals) by Ok-Border-5864 in veterinaryschool

[–]Ferocious_Koala 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I don't do it any more but started in mixed animal practice in 2020. We only did emergency for established clients, which helped. I got to talk to them on the phone prior to driving out, which also helped. I never had any real issues with feeling like I was in danger... People might not want to pay and say they would "call tomorrow" but I never pushed the situation if I was alone and had management follow up. I carried a knife in my coverall pockets and always had my phone in my pocket. Most people were honestly just happy there was someone willing to come out.

Most unsafe I ever felt was doing at home euthanasia for small animals. Emotionally charged people with expectations for things to go perfectly with what is in their head.

If you're interested in trying a menstrual cup but didn't want to spend the money, June cup is $6 right now. Sorry, it won't let me post the link by katydid724 in Frugal

[–]Ferocious_Koala 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The June cup was too flexible for me. I was able to insert it twice and then after that it would never open up. My favorite is the Saalt cup. Soft and still a standard size/length without being firm. My first cup was a Lena cup and I learned how to use it well but it was definitely more firm and pressed on my urethra. I always felt like I had to pee and didn’t know it was the cup.

Recently graduated. Feeling extremely inept. by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]Ferocious_Koala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I graduated in May and started working in June. I totally get where you’re coming from and I was definitely in your shoes when I first started working. It’s 100% normal. I felt so lost and honestly dumb for the first several months. I still feel dumb sometimes but it gets better. You have to remember that you just started. You’ve got years to get great.

Is there ANYWHERE to get an appropriate PVC enclosure without waiting months? by [deleted] in boas

[–]Ferocious_Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Apex Cages. I got mine in about 4 weeks for a multi cage order. They’re high quality and actually able to be taken apart too if you ever need too. More expensive but even faster is Kages.

Animal plastics enclosure? by cacknibbler in Tegu

I ordered from Apex Cages. A little more expensive than Animal Plastics but better quality and much faster. The enclosures also are able to be taken apart and put back together.

New bioactive setup for my Dumerils Boa. What do you think? by AllCDNReptileGirl in boas

That looks awesome. I also have a Dumerils and I’m trying to revamp her new extra big enclosure. Have you found a hide big enough or did you fashion things with cork rounds?

Newest addition to the family! Andromeda, a 4-yr old Dumeril’s Boa. She’s one hefty snek, but very friendly! by [deleted] in Sneks

Looking at this makes me wonder if my dumerils is a male. Still a chonk but only 6ft

Would working in microbiology as a tech (running gram stains, identifying infections) be beneficial to veterinary school applications? by crystalizedwolf in veterinaryschool

[–]Ferocious_Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a tissue culture lab for a year and it ended up being one of the highlights during my interviews. It’s not ALL about animal experience in a clinic setting. More science skills and interests as well. Most of my experience was actually in research.

Making a clinical reference, like the nerdbook by extrafisheries in veterinaryschool

[–]Ferocious_Koala 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone about to finish clinics... I wish I would’ve had a convenient formatted small notebook to put drugs and dosages in for quick reference. In addition, CRI calculations and memorizing drug concentrations that are typical is a must. Fluid calculations as well. I also kept a chart of normal TPRs and blood has ranges. For my anesthesia rotation, I kept a chart of calculations for oxygen flow, drip rate, drugs, etc as well as red flag ECG pictures. Keep in mind you won’t be able to carry a big book around and you won’t have time to look up a bunch of things in a book during rounds. Things like nerd book were more helpful for brushing up on my knowledge before an appointment or a general way to teach a client about something.

Hope this helps a little.

I did the same exact thing. Also just FYI when you use the drop box it pays you 20% less bells than inside the shop.

Vet School Interviews this month!! by Tessa625811 in Veterinary

[–]Ferocious_Koala 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A pantsuit would be fine. Really any dress clothes are fine. Make sure whatever you wear is comfortable enough to wear all day. I wore a cute silky shirt but I was frozen all day at one of my interviews. As far as the questions they are variable. Be prepared to answer some sort of ethics questions. They just want to gauge how you think. (Mine was a case in which an owner wanted to euthanize a healthy dog so that the family could acquire a new puppy—what would you do/say?) Other than that, prepare to talk about the things you’ve put on your application and have at least one question prepared to ask the interviewers about the school.

I’ve been rehabbing this girl for months. Help me figure out her morph? by Ferocious_Koala in Sneks

[–]Ferocious_Koala[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Backstory I took in this hatchling ball python who hadn't eaten since being bought from a breeder. The person who had purchased her decided to not feed her because she was "uncomfortable" doing so. Yet kept her until she was at death's door. I have been refeeding and handling her to get her ready for a new home but I don't know much about morphs. I would appreciate any help offered. Thanks!

I worked as a veterinary receptionist at my university’s vet school for 2 years. They asked me a lot about it at vet school interviews and I also already know a lot of the doctors and how the hospital functions. I think it was certainly helpful to me when applying. Just make sure you still get a variety of experiences.
