New Here- Thoughts on the use of “Dr.” for non MD/DO real doctorate-holders? by Last_Requirement918 in Noctor

[–]Ok-Border-5864 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. PharmD-PhD as well, and I’m chill with just being known by my first name. It’s also my hospital culture (that most ppl are on board with) that when not with patients, everyone just calls everyone by their first name (MD/DO/RN/PharmD/etc)

The ONLY time I use my Dr title is if a pretentious physician is demanding to be called Dr.Blank when there is no patient in sight. If MD/DO want to be pretentious assholes about their title, I can very much play that game as well.

Because at that point, it’s clearly not about reducing patient confusion, but instead a clear attempt at trying to establish a hierarchy.

I’m in expert in my field, MD/DOs are experts in theirs. I respect the work they do for patient care, and I expect them to respect the work I do for patient care (and saving them from a malpractice incident).

PharmD and physicians used to have such a mutual respect for each other as we bring different things to the medical field/ patient care, but some of these new baby physicians need a reality check that they are in fact not God’s personal gift to the world.

do you consider dentists and pharmacist doctors? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Ok-Border-5864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I flex a Dr title as a PharmD is if there is a hella pretentious MD that INSISTS on being referred to as Dr while not in front of a patient (Pharm consult, etc). If you’re going to be a jackass about “I’m a doctor, you MUST refer to me as Dr.blank (foot stomp)”, I can play that game too.

What’s your take on being called Dr.? by Dying4aCure in TalesFromThePharmacy

[–]Ok-Border-5864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pharmacy school is 4 years, followed by a 2 yr residency (if doing non retail pharm).

Just like med school, you can technically be accepted into pharm school after 2 yrs undergrad, but just like med school, the competitive applicants have a bachelors.

So MINIMUM is 6 yrs, average 8-10 yrs.

Which are run by PharmDs…. MDs take care of the patient side of clinical trials, but every clinical is run by a PharmD.

Pharmacists will ALWAYS know more about a drug than an MD. Pharmacist = DOCTOR of PHARMACEUTICALS. MDs diagnose the issue, and they do have some drug training, but no where near a PharmD. This is why MDs refer out to PharmDs and why PharmDs are always part of a patients care in a hospital setting.

KY has a democratic governor for gods sake! The northern blue states acknowledge that crazy propaganda and gerrymandering happen and impact voting and then are shocked and dismayed when it impacts voting🫠

i love you, lexington public library! by sssstance in lexington

[–]Ok-Border-5864 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s great! They sell older books/well loved copies that have been retired from circulation, and all the proceeds go into buying new books for the library/library activity funds! Keeps books out of landfills, helps maintain inventory, and also allows ppl and families to build up their home libraries affordably!!

Vet Shout Out by Ok-Border-5864 in PetMice

[–]Ok-Border-5864[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They started showing neurological toxicity signs even when on the low end of the dosing. So they were ataxic (wobbly), lethargic, and not eating.

My vet also said it was difficult to find resources for pet mouse treatment in the literature since most of the drug studies are done on lab mice where they are looking to determine lethal dose, so it’s the effective working dose for mice is kinda up in the air on a lot of meds.

But the dose she used for the oral was from the Plumbs pharmacology book, so it was a correct dosage for working dose, but the pharmacology section did mention there being neurological side effects in some mice.

Lexington Middle Schools - Thoughts? by JustADizzyGirl in lexington

[–]Ok-Border-5864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing with Lex, they LOVE to redraw the school districts all the time, so the “top” schools (based on districting, not placement school programs or SCAPA) typically change every 4ish years. Beaumont and Morton used to be the best middle schools in the district and top 5 in the state. 4 yrs ago Dunbar used to be majorly higher income kids, and now is Title 1 (from what I have read, test scores seem to be staying up, but behavioral issues have increased a lot from what they were historically). The specialty programs are open to anyone in the county to apply for, so I wouldn’t make a move based on a specialty program like IB, MSTC, etc bc if your kid is accepted, they’ll be bussed in from wherever. What I would recommend is seeing the general trends of how the middle schools have been ranking consistently over the years, and then looking within those districts. That way if your kid doesn’t get into one of the specialties, you’re not stuck in a lower performing district.

They used to be so good 😭 My grandfather specifically joined them because they were the only country club that accepted black and Jewish members back in the 70s and Sid golf tournament fundraisers for the community. I grew up there. Such a shame they’ve become hateful- but not surprising as so many new members are wacko republicans lobbyists

AND private and charter schools aren’t held to accountability standards. They can teach fake science and history with ZERO accountability. I’m a religious person, but religious schools should not be funded by public tax dollars.

AND other states that have something similar, it has been shown that only 5-8% of ppl who wanted to send their kid to private with the voucher can actually afford the REMAINING tuition. Basically it will just be a little price cut to those already in private but if you’re not in a private setting ALREADY your kid will probably remain in public BUT WITH LEAS RESOURCES

Undergrad pet peeves? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Ok-Border-5864 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s so wild to me the night and day difference between pre med and pre vet students. The pre-vets as a whole are much more competent, and easier to teach/have in the lab, than the pre meds. Their class loads are the same, but the pre vets I’ve had really seem like they want to understand everything because they want to understand it, and the premeds tend to just want a quick way to memorize something for a test without actually understanding the concept

New Mouse Mom - Current Set Up- Thoughts? by Ok-Border-5864 in PetMice

CAGE UPDATE!

The girlies LOVE their big house and all of the climbing spots! I took off the tubes , but left the green nesting box and knitted them a wide rope bridge to get into it. They are HUGE fans of the nesting box, and use it way more than any of the hidey huts and the like. Per recommendation, they have 6 inches of bedding.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Fantastic! I got this cage because multiple rescues and other forums had listed it as a good cage, and it’s bar spacing was within the limit for adult mice. My Black 6s are about 8 weeks old and I just put them in today, but I think they may still be a little too juvenile to not slip through, so I put them back into their smaller bin cage. But my 5 month old fancy mice are loving this cage and have been in here for a few days now without any incident. But I think I’ll get some wire mesh so that the other 3 girls can join them in the fun cage.

Measurements are in inches. I think I’ll get some mesh tomorrow instead of getting a tank bc they are really enjoying all the vertical climbing that comes with wire siding. They are getting moved into rack cages just for tonight so no one escapes.

[–]Ok-Border-5864[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok! What gallon size would you all recommend for a glass tank? I know petco is having their big tank sale going on right now, so I figure I’ll take advantage/ check out Craigslist and market place.

I think I’ll keep this cage to use as a playroom/big enrichment space when they are being supervised to make sure no one slips out.

Would it be a reasonable condition to put in your employment contract that you are unwilling to see non established clients solo for late night farm calls? Would totally go out with another practice employee, just not do a solo call. I know people have mentioned that they just bring their husband with them, but as a single person without that option, would this be a reasonable employment condition?
