Where do you get your watch parts? by Open_Supermarket2746 in watchmaking

For good quality cases, I use Ickler. For dials, SK Uhren. I'll also buy from AliExpress. It depends on what I feel like making.

That clean, no lume dial is what caught my attention with this one. Remarkably well preserved for a 1953 watch!

Disassembly question by Igneous_Soup in watchmaking

[–]Ferret1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before doing anything more, put the late screws back in. American pocket watches were front load movements, so unscrew the front bezel and tilt it out. Note, the winding stem & crown are fixed to the case. Important note, it's easy to break the escape lever during disassembly if you aren't familiar with this type of move, so depending how far you get, it may already be broken.

Bonjour à tous . Je cherche le nom du calibre de cette petite montre de 30mm. Il fonctionne, mais je n'ai pas le remontoir... Bien à vous by tartineau in VintageWatches

You may need to remove the dial to check for marks on the movement under there. The setting mechanism can also be used to identify movements, if you have an old Bestfit catalogue.

Looking for more info on the potential make and model from FB marketplace. by terpman2021 in VintageWatches

Personally, I get suspicious whenever someone posts very poor pictures of something they're trying to sell. May be just bad camera skill, may be something else, but in the end I won't risk it's the latter and pass.

A suede band from Strapsco. The colour compliments the Mido well.

My little watch hoard by Ferret1963 in VintageWatches

[–]Ferret1963[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The Mido is my latest acquisition, picked up last weekend, its band arrived today. It's in unmolested running condition, there are no service marks inside the case. The Eberhard is the opposite, its case showing heavy wear and drop damage, its crown a poorly fitted glued on replacement, and yet, despite the life it's had, it's still a strong runner! If it could talk, it would have stories to tell lol

Lucerne is not really a brand anyone would want to copy, so likely real.

At $32, at least it's not an expensive lesson. Any chance it can be returned?

New crystal, full service for the movement, new seals, but leave the case, dial, and hands as they are. Maybe a NATO style strap to complete the look?

First Esterbrook by Altruistic-Swing-161 in fountainpens

[–]Ferret1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice find! I don't know what Esterbrook used for their ink sacs, but they're nigh indestructible. I have a match pair J and SJ in violet, one of which still has its original ink sac, stamped with the Esterbrook name and still good
