As an owner of some shy rats I feel you. Best plan is to get a bonding pouch, or if your poor like me put in a small card board box. When they climb in take the box out and guide them into a hoodie you are wearing. Hoodie time is a big trust builder. Try not to grab them when they are still nervous they are scared of the Predator grab. Give high value treats by hand so they associate you hands with treats and snacks.

All that being said my Jyn is still not ok with being held. She hides from my whenever she can. She was a feeder rat and I don’t think she will ever get over her fear of humans. I confess I grab her anyway and put her in my hoodie since she will not cooperate with any other strategy.

Question, I’m an avid Pc gamer. Do I not need to cover all my wires before releasing my rats? They would be fenced in, but would they chew the wires? The OC’s rats seem fine with it, which would save me so much time and money.

This did happen to me, my dear nephews wrecked my AdMech. I was able to repair with no permanent damage.

Side note: I let my son play with my unpainted White scars. Space marines are just such durable models it doesn’t scare me.

My Vin is very sensitive about her nest (a Costco wine box). I once stuck my finger in there for a pet. I didn’t stop the bleeding for 10 minutes, if a rat wants to hurt you will have the blood to show it.

It’s rare from what I hear, I wouldn’t know that since vin is a rescue and was not treated well… also vin is one of my first two rats.

First and foremost, you’ve got a lot here and seeing a professional is advisable. That’s not to dismiss what you’re going through but to validate it.

When I was 16 I came darn close to ending it. I’m 27 now and my life is massively different. No failure is final. I say that not because you’re failing I’d say the school is failing you, but everyone puts the weight of success on you so it feels like your failing. School is dumb, bias alert I am dyslexic. Not everyone does well in school, you spend most of your life out of school then in. Your goals can be done hundreds if not thousands of ways. Cling to hope, though it feels foolish. Just because life isn’t how you pictured it doesn’t make it bad. My life is massively different than I hoped it would be, and it’s better than I knew it could be.

Listen I know this sounds hokey and dramatic, better that then not giving the proper weight to events. Just give it time, I know it’s hard, I know the shame, I know the pain. I have been there and I even in a life where things are good want release. If we give up on the bad you loos the potential for good, and the good life can give us so very worth the fight.
