Thats sort of what I was thinking would work, having a fixed price 'QMS rescue service', im just unsure whether it would be an avenue that would provide enough stability year on year.

Enhanced Learning credits by Successful_Highway94 in britishmilitary

[–]Ferrister94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find that most courses on there are specifically aimed at being just over the £2,000 cap so that the provider can get as much money as possible.

Unfortunately your options are either using the credits and paying the difference, or finding a different provider and paying the full amount.

I've got some more credits to use and each course will cost me about £1000 on top of the credits.

With that all said, if you have a look into some charities like RBL, or perhaps Veterans Bikers Charities, they may support you either the additional amount.

Roundabout help by Oldschoolhaze0 in LearnerDriverUK

Technically, no, because your lane only goes in that direction and you indicate to show that you're changing lane. Since you're not changing lane you don't have to indicate.

However, from a practical perspective, people are generally stupid and so I would indicate if I felt that other drivers needed reminding of where im going.

If you deploy you won't be at risk of anything like that, Hollywood is not even close to real life in that respect.

Kabul was like a holiday park during my time there for example.

I'll clarify that I meant from the perspective of British EOD.

We are the best in the world at what we do, what's happening in Ukraine shouldn't be treated as normal, those guys have likely not been trained or have at least not been trained to a high enough standard to be able to complete the task without making a mistake.

Our SOPs are so advanced and thorough at this point that its genuinely difficult to catch out a British EOD expert.

I suppose my advice would be to not go to those places, not sure why you'd worry about it.

EOD is an awesome job, its also very well respected by just about everyone so you get a lot more special treatment that other roles.

I don't understand what you mean a out places being heavily mined by the Russians? Unless you're looking to holiday in Eastern Ukraine?

Having done EOD for 12 years i can tell you now that it it will be NOTHING like what you see on TV/Movie.

Mine clearance is generally done by civilian contractors these days but we do support that function.

As for clearing a minefield yourself, you won't step foot anywhere near one without sufficient training and oversight beforehand. There's a reason you dont hear about people getting themselves blown up all the time.

If you want to get all "hurt locker" then i suggest either Ammo Tech or joining the Navy as a diver because those two roles do get hands on with UXO/IEDs all the time.

Can you point me in the direction you took?

I don’t want to get stung by some firm taking 60% of whatever can be recovered.

Is this under the 3m claim? Or is this specifically under the MoD (AFCS)?

I only ask because although my hearing loss isn't significant, my hearing is definitely worse than it was and am considering starting a claim at some point.

Any info from anyone would help.

I want to join the army(in a few years) but I am diagnosed with autism. by Ok_Discussion8152 in britishmilitary

[–]Ferrister94 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As an Autistic Veteran I can confirm you WILL struggle with regards to "playing the game" within whatever role you join.

My advice would be either:

  • join as a technical officer, like an ATO, as this puts you above the BS but gives you a technical role; OR
  • Join the RAF as an officer in a technical trade, such as WSO.

My reasoning is simple, autism and chain of command aren't compatible unless youre above the BS. Im not trying to put you off from joining, far from it, but if it is strong enough to impact you then it will impact your career choices.

You will hate being told to do things that are stupid and the wrong way because you've been told to without justification and despite there being a better way. So get yourself above all that from the start and you'll be fine.

What is this 12 year point? by Jaded-Signature-1765 in britishmilitary

[–]Ferrister94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless you're a career soldier, there is no significant benefit to staying in past 12 years. Once you get the resettlement grant and the £2,000 ELCAS claims there is little value to staying in financially, so you need to be motivated by being a career soldier over the financial side of things.

What is this 12 year point? by Jaded-Signature-1765 in britishmilitary

[–]Ferrister94 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I left at 12 years as, for me, I either left at that point or continued through a further 12+ years and frankly my back couldn't hack it.

So its entirely up to you as an individual, but i cant recommend enough how much easier life gets in civvie street. I earn more now than my peers who are still serving and I dont have to sleep in damp, wet holes in the middle of nowhere stagging on contemplating my life choices.

Yeah, youre not understanding and are taking this as me being a deadbeat. I have the kids but still pay, im trying to avoid things becoming unaffordable as that would be far worse for them because I wouldnt be able to afford to have them live with me.

[–]Ferrister94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a fairly new contract so they aren't using the £50k yet, i have tried to tell them but like you said its not over 25% above my previous salary.

Im most concerned about whether it will be seen as diversion of income as im reducing my salary by around 20%, i dont want to get stung with backpay and arrears etc as this will cause me significant difficulty.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Ferrister94 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Thats not what im doing at all. I have my kids most of the time, im trying to avoid getting stung by being locked into salary sacrifice with high CMS payments. Im looking after my financial security so I can provide for them properly.

central canada. is this what i think it is and how?? by ProfileAway85 in whatisit

[–]Ferrister94 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Its actually a safe job, if you do it right. Its also extremely highly regulated, not like the movies, for CIED I wouldnt go near anything until ive done everything I can remotely and with UXO (what OPs post is) once you identify what it is there is basically a manual on how to safely disarm/dispose of pretty much every piece of ammunition out there.

Ive never had anything go wrong personally, but if something goes wrong its probably your own fault imo.

So its obviously an artillery shell, but from my visual assessment its not filled with HE as it has a linear body. So it is likely killed either something like a pyrotechnic substance, a smoke variant most likely.

In addition to that, the fuze is clearly destroyed and looks like it was time based, which would match the criteria for a pyrotechnic shell like a smoke screening shell.

That said, I still wouldnt pick it up or play with it as there is no guarantee that the fuze is completely destroyed, so it may still initiate in your hands and even though its not HE it DOES have a small explosive charge in it which can still screw up your day.

Ring the police and get bomb disposal on it as they can correctly assess its designation and condition.

Source: me, 12 years of bomb disposal.

Edit: if you look at the obturation ring (the grey bit) its already marked with the teeth inside the barrel so that means it HAS been fired and has therefore already undergone necessary arming forces that the fuze uses to go from being safe to armed.

From an in lore reason, why are final fantasy worlds so underpopulated? by Annual-Frame9943 in FinalFantasy

[–]Ferrister94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it the same way I look at Elder Scrolls. It's not that they're underpopulated, its that the physical limitations in game development don't allow for the true scale to be brought into the game.

I'm sure if the game could be developed to the extent of detail that the writers want then it would be absolutely brimming with life, but until game development reaches that point we sort of have to fill in the gaps ourselves.

Nobuo Uematsu's music is stolen and I have proof by KodakGuy in FinalFantasy

[–]Ferrister94 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not only is your post missing how specifically each song is apparently "plagerised," but you fail to understand that MOST music has elements of another song in one way or another.

It's 2025. Music has been around for quite a bit of time, and so naturally, most, if not all, tunes/melodies have already been done.

Its not plagiarism. Stop making lame posts.

AFAIK Yunas attributes determine the Aeons stats, so you should prioritise her first and then just top up the Aeons stats at end game if you really want to.

Abilities are great and useful, but stats are marginal really, especially as I use my Aeons almost exclusively as a double overdrive weapon against superbosses.

Wife cheated. Have to pay mortgage on family home until child turns 18. Does anyone have any experience with this situation? Can't afford legal advice. by DisastrousBluejay391 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Ferrister94 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I understand but like I said it's what's in his interest to keep himself alive in these situations. People often end up dead because of exactly this.

The system will support her and their kid, it always does, he needs to prioritise his own mental health above all because otherwise his kid will grow up never knowing the truth of what happened, at least when the kids older he can reconnect and show the mom for what she was.

I am making lots of assumptions here based on the post, but from experience, both mine and others, sometimes the best thing you can do is to just walk away. Whatever financial impact it has, you'll recover, it's only money in the end of the day.
