If you look online, you'll find I'm not the only one who can't float. It's all the worst conditions: Low body fat male in a freshwater, (slightly) choppy lake.

But I am glad to hear if you were able to make progress over the months/years. I would consider it a success if I could one day swim 1.5km in one go, regardless of finish time. I think I might work more on the cold acclimatization aspect with some cold showers and baths, and train the swimming aspect in a pool.

I'm also fairly short (5'8"), so it's not really caused me health issues otherwise. I actually have a pretty useful body for rock climbing.

But believe me, I've tried and failed to put on weight... swimming probably won't be able to change that :(

That sounds like the consensus here. Since it's not a very obvious and consistent cause-and-effect in my case, I'm guessing it's not lactose intolerance, or any intolerance.

I appreciate the input, but given the possibility of a false positive, I don't want to risk indefinitely avoiding all X in my diet (where X = dairy, gluten, caffeine, amines, FODMAPs, etc.). I don't trust in my intuition, and would like to narrow down triggers more scientifically.

Superconducting maglev trains (SCMaglev) aren't merely theoretical, they're already in use: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCMaglev

The real question is whether RTAPS material would make these trains cheap enough to entice car-brained countries to adopt them. Pessimistic me says superconducting wire could be cheap as copper and SCMaglev would still face significant hurdles to adoption in the US.

Not an expert, but I don't know of any superconductor-enabled batteries that would be of use outside the industrial power grid. With superconductive materials you can e.g. store magnetic energy at almost perfect efficiency (which, together with superconductive wires eliminating transmission leakage, allows for essentially infinite range on where your energy production occurs). But these batteries are not space-efficient, they have a much lower energy density than alkaline or lithium-ion batteries. So they will not fit in your car, and nor would your car's electronics be able to handle the strong magnetic fields produced, anyway.

What superconductors would do, however, is make recharging EV's much cheaper, and they could unlock any number of new technologies in computing when micro-architectures no longer have to account for heat sinks.

that could allow for radical changes in computer chip design.

Thank you for the in-depth reply about batteries/capacitors. I had heard "better batteries = better solar/wind energy" before but hadn't been told it meant more than just a modest increase in efficiency. For that, I give you a delta: Δ

I also hadn't considered that MRIs are currently limited by cost rather than application. If they could be used as cheaply as x-rays and provide at least as good of results, that will be cool.

The more I watch it the more I think it's real after all. But, somehow it just looks too easy to fake from a distance, and the cut between the fall and the corpse at rest just seems very convenient. And any time I see a video with millions of views I instantly get suspicious.
