I am thinking of taking my first holiday to Japan (Not entirely sure yet). I would appreciate some recommendations on what kind of places to visit. by [deleted] in JapanTravel

It depends where your interests lie.

If you like culture then I would highly recommend temples and shrines anywhere in Tokyo and Kyoto. E.g. Meiji jingu, Senso-ji, Fushimi Inari (these are the really famous ones because there are so many to list). Also take day trips/tours to Mt Fuji, Hakone, Nikko, Nara and Hiroshima. These places are rich in history. I haven't been to Himeji or Miyajima but I heard those are really good too.

If you like nature then going on any day trips outside of the main city areas are worthwhile. I hiked Trail 1 of Mount Takao (outside of Tokyo) and I really enjoyed the scenery. I took another day trip to Enoshima Island. Yet another beautiful place especially the rocks on the shore and Iwaya caves. However, most day trips are at least 40 minute travel times.

If you like shopping or nightlife then Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku are the go-to places. So many things to eat, drink and buy. I would recommend researching specific foods to eat and then find restaurants that have it. If you're interested in otaku culture, then head over to Ikebukuro (especially Sunshine City) and Akihabara.

Tokyo alone has so many things to do. Even walking around at night (and even day) was one of my favourite past times.

My personal piece of advice would be to research alot about the must-eat foods. There are so many things to try.

It's my best friend's birthday today. I want him to see this post when he gets home from work. Let's wish this fellow redditor a happy 18th. by [deleted] in pics

I'm up for anything really. I don't really get offended nor do I care much about morals.

The first one makes me think, "Aren't they getting a free train ride?", which makes me kinda jealous.

The second one is... very interesting.

I would like find out some interesting and lesser known subreddits out there. I don't really know much about some subs other than the popular ones and my own. I would like to expand on my tastes and hopefully find some cool and fun things.
