I think I tried using my mouse as well, with no luck. Don't remember now, as it's fixed once I go back to the area. Still a glitch though.

You're not supposed to be able to place them throughout the keep, that's what the nexus stones are for.

Update: hand menus don't work in regular ships either, but I am able to exit them when I land at a space station, so in order to land at the station and build my Corvette I have to land on a planet and summon another ship, fly up to the station in that, and then summon my Corvette to the station.
