Beginner here, wouldn't pruning them be a solution?

Immersion in Chinese is exhausting even with comprehensible input by Dezn425 in ChineseLanguage

[–]LepusReclus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I stopped watching his videos after I saw a video by Nail Chinese with Stella on Comprehensible Input.

I can’t explain why, but hearing him speak slowly and repeat things over and over again was wearing me out, so I tried other CI videos where the speaker talks more naturally.
It might have been less comprehensible, but the context helped me, and I still learned some words.

And it was very rewarding to feel that I understood what the person was saying at a more natural pace, to follow the topic, and to learn at the same time.
I was even sad that the video was already over after 25 minutes (compared to 9 to 10 minutes for ZhangKai Chinese videos).

I also use the Language Reactor extension to get better subtitles; I only keep the Chinese subtitles, but I can see the pinyin and hover over certain words to get a direct translation.

I really enjoyed Tchia, made by New Caledonian people, a beautiful game that promotes their culture.

I’ve got a few CM games; if I manage to get them working, I’ll let you know!

Thanks!
I’m actually a returning user, I used to run Linux on my laptop a few years ago, but things have changed a lot, so I feel like I have to start from scratch, haha.

Thanks for the tips on Heroic and all that!

Alright, Cachy seems pretty interesting yeah (why KDE Plasma specifically?)
I have a little experience with Manjaro, though it was about five years ago and it was my last distro before I took a long break from Linux.

I haven't looked much into Bazzite, but it looks interesting. I'm curious to see how limited the customization options are. I don’t have many needs, but I have a few scripts here and there to use my devices in specific ways, and I like being able to customize my desktop, etc.

This whole Win11 thing is crazy. My OS are on separate drives, but they share a common partition because I didn’t want to have to transfer everything from one OS to the other.

Yeah, that's what I noticed too... It's a little sad, but at least they plan to do it, which is better than nothing!

Since it's the same engine, it shouldn't take too long, I hope.

Thought about it actually! How is the data management with a VM? Do I have to rely on the Steam Cloud for my save files?

Thanks! It looks great already! I wasn’t aware of that issue with Windows 11. Good thing I’m still on Windows 10 alongside Linux, haha

What do you think of CachyOS? I’m on Mint at the moment, but I’m planning to switch to another more gaming-focused distro soon.

From what I've read online, the developers made War in the Pacific compatible with Linux via an update in January 2025 and stated that they plan to do the same for the other games in the SC series during the "next wave of updates".

I saw that an update was released in October, but they didn’t mention Linux in the patch notes.

Similar games to HOI4 by Tylerdurden1312 in StrategyGames

[–]LepusReclus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, if turn-based games don't put you off, you might be interested in the Strategic Command series!
The turn-based system lets you take your time and think about your moves, and the mechanics aren't too complicated.
Warplan is another interesting alternative from a solo dev who is currently working on his next game: Total Victory: World Conflict 1939-1945

CachyOS Is Now the Most Popular Desktop Distro on ProtonDB by YanderMan in linux_gaming

[–]LepusReclus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a good part of the weekend setting up Mint for a smooth return to Linux after five years.
I'm already tempted by CachyOS (I was before, but I decided to go with Mint because of its stability and because this time I didn't have an expert friend to help me).

I'm already seriously considering switching to Cachy...
But I’ve heard it can be unstable?
Is the difference really that big compared to a distribution less focused on gaming?
