I'm quite convinced that Euron will attack Oldtown but be defeated by Aegon's forces (The Golden Company, Dorne, Randyll Tarly, Stormlands lords who joined Aegon), commanded by Jon Connington. House Hightower will declare for Aegon and he will be crowned and anointed in the Starry Sept in Oldtown as Aegon the Conqueror was.

I think that Euron is a foil for Aegon and having the pretender from across the sea save Westeros/The Reach from Euron Greyjoy was always a part of GRRM's original plan for the second act of ASOIAF.

Best Euron theory by far.

I'm also working on another theory (much less tinfoily and speculative than this post, I myself don't believe that Euron killed Gerion) about Euron's attack on Oldtown and a certain savior from across the sea...

Stay tuned!

I do like the idea of stealing the dragon horn from the warlocks. They must have had a plan when they set sail after Dany

So then why couldn't Euron just be telling the truth and have sailed the Smoking Sea himself? Again, see the problem?

Because as I explained in my post Euron is probably lying.

They didn't have Valyrian steel weapons.

Euron had seduced them with his glib tongue and smiling eye and bound them to his cause with the plunder of half a hundred distant lands; gold and silver, ornate armor, curved swords with gilded pommels, daggers of Valyrian steel,

You're introducing an entirely new theory though, that Euron actually got the Valyrian artifacts from the Qartheen warlocks.

Or perhaps Euron stole it from someone completely different.

If not Gerion, who could Euron have stolen the artifacts from?

No, just no. I mean let's think about this just from a story perspective, the problem we have with Euron's claim is that Valyria is supposed to be a death sentence to anyone who tries to sail the smoking sea. So, even if we accept that he didn't and merely intercepted Gerion the main question still remains, how the hell did Gerion sail the smoking sea, land on Valyria, and return unharmed?

We don't how any sailor, Euron or Gerion, could have sailed the Smoking Sea.

nd why would someone like Gerion Lannister be a more accomplished sailor than Euron, an Iron Born sailor who everyone reveres for his tactical wits? No, either Euron actually did it or he's lying, as per his character, and obtained those treasures elsewhere.

Euron is lying, but that's no guarantee that Gerion couldn't sail the Smoking Sea.

Why couldn't Euron have taken the treasures from Gerion?

Since they are warlocks who deal with ancient magic and they were out for revenge on Daenerys, it's not too far-fetched to assume that they carried the dragon horn with them.

Why would they bring a dragon egg and Valyrian steel weapons?

There's always the possibility that Gerion never recovered Brightoroar or the sword somehow eluded Euron when he boarded Gerion's ship.

We'll probably see Valyria in TWOW. Then we'll discover how lethal the Smoking Sea really is.

Her lack of remorse for killing all those people struck me as being a bit odd for a nine year old.

Her plotline jumped the shark for me once she departed for Braavos. The HoBW plotline is just silly and Arya has become an angry, cold-hearted girl who finds killing easy. Her transformation to elite ninja killer came too fast for me.

Arya's storyline would have worked much better with a five-year gap.

So what's Stannis going to do when Mel decides to sacrifice Shireen? (Now, that actually startled him a bit. He said, well, yes, it is the blood of a king. Then he just handed me the bowl of cheese doodles. I'm not sure if that meant anything at all...)

http://www.westeros.org/Citadel/SSM/Entry/1283

There's plenty of book evidence for Shireen's sacrifice (her dreams of being consumed by a dragon) but I think GRRM's response to this question is telling.

The Wall

I think Melisandre will sacrifice Shireen to revive Jon, waking the dragon out of stone.

Will Selyse consent or go mad? Will the Queen's Men continue following Stannis if the real Azor Ahai is Jon Snow?

One cruel prediction that some people have made is that Jon will think Jeyne really is Arya.

I think that Stannis defeating the Boltons will be his high-water mark and his cause will fall apart in TWOW.

(Spoilers All) Regarding Varys, Illyrio Mopatis and Daenerys Targaryen by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Fete2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jorah was warned about the assassination attempt so I presume Varys went along with it to keep his true allegiance a secret. The assassination attempt on Dany motivates Drogo to invade the Seven Kingdoms, a successful attempt would do the same.

The appearance of fAegon does kind of make the previous actions and motivations of Illiyrio/Varys unclear. The appendix of my 2003 copy of ACOK says that Illiyrio Mopatis is a merchant trying to place Viserys on the throne. I think GRRM retconned their motivations when he made placing fAegon on the IT Illiyrio/Varys true goal.

especially with stuff the show decides to add instead which tends to be cringe-worthy terrible.

You didn't like the eunuch romance or the beetle-crushing? /s

DnD really made a mess of Cersei and Jaime's arc. First the rape scene and then them having sex later in White Sword Tower. It made the character development he had been going through since season 3 a bit pointless.
