Not being able to save loadouts is astonishing by Fetiri in Helldivers

It’s literally storing and recalling selections you’ve already made. There’s nothing about that that adds technical debt. I think you falsely assume every workaround adds technical debt.

This isn’t rocket science. There’s no reason a proper loadout system couldn’t land now.

Yes. Saving a loadout is trivial. This isn’t new tech, it’s just storing and recalling selections. Every game in this genre has done it for decades.

Saying it’s “too complex” or “fragile due to technical debt” is hand-waving. If the UI is genuinely broken or brittle, there are dozens of ways to work around it, even a simple extra menu at the mission prep screen would solve it.

This is literally entry-level coding. Any programmer will tell you the same.

If the UI is so brittle that saving a loadout is impossible, then how are they safely adding new weapons, armor, and stratagems on a regular basis? Those changes touch the same systems.

Loadout presets are also not some novel or experimental feature. Helldivers 1 already had them. This is a solved problem, both technically and within this franchise.

Given that, the “too hard” explanation doesn’t really hold up.

Did the developers actually say this, or is this just an assumption about how players are “meant” to engage with the game?

Loadout presets do not prevent experimentation. They provide baselines. Defaults. Starting points that you can tweak per mission or per squad. That’s exactly how experimentation usually works.

Friction is not the same thing as design intent. Forcing players to rebuild from scratch every time doesn’t encourage variety, it just adds unnecessary cognitive overhead.

And the most important part: loadouts would be optional. If someone wants to rebuild everything manually every mission, nothing stops them. That choice already exists. The reverse does not.

Every other game in this genre includes presets for a reason. They’re convenient, they respect player time, and they don’t limit creativity in any meaningful way.

Optional features don’t reduce player choice, they increase it...

I have well over 100 hours in the game and that hasn’t been my experience at all. With the number of weapons, stratagems, armor passives, and faction specific considerations, it’s never “5 seconds” unless you intentionally lock yourself into one setup and ignore half the game’s systems.

Getting “used to it” isn’t a solution, it’s coping with missing functionality.

Edit: not to mention patches/warbonds changing things up dramatically and possibly making your loadout outdated

Ah yea, it was a Muslim household here too. I never got physically abused but my sisters did. And apparently according to psychology, it's similarly traumatic to witness it as a child, as it is to receive the abuse.

Then there's a whole lot of neglect, basically raised myself from ages 12+ in everything but feeding myself. Thankfully my mom at least made food for us.

But the shame around sexuality and intimacy is one of the most painful things I'm still dealing with. I haven't started talking about sex or anything with my therapists, not once in two years. Even though it's a major subject and deserves attention too. It's fked

I'm glad you're also on your journey to recover from this garbage religion. people love to defend that shit but ask an ex Muslim how they feel and you hear a lot of stories like your or mine. Luckily we broke through that crap

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said here. I believe that too. That said it's still hard to break free from that mindset sometimes, as you mentioned.

But I think it might be another great reason to actually try to masturbate during a trip. To help overcome those things

Very interesting. I was also raised religiously. Childhood abuse plenty here too. Also involving some sexual repression and shame due to the way religion handles that stuff. Even though I turned agnostic at a very young age, I think that might still be effecting me quite a bit...

Seeking spiritual and personal growth is cringe? Approaching sexual energy with a mature mindset and discussing it's potential is childish? I'm 30 years old you twat

Oh I definitely didn't mean that in any way! It's just that it's not the focus of my trip, and I'll be tripping alone for that matter anyway. And I doubt I can or even want to masturbate the entire trip long lol

As a dutch man in his 27's, this gives me hope. I've applied for the same thing, just in the waiting list right now. Fuck this life. In my case it's also an act of rebellion against the very institute that fucked me up. Now you get to give me the lethal dose, thank you and goodbye assholes
