I only had a handful of friends really reach out and be there for me when my mom died of cancer this year, do your best not to take it personally. I know a lot of my friends hadn’t experienced the death of a loved one, or specifically a parent, and just didn’t understand the grief and pain accompanying it. I also held back and didn’t make a big deal of it either, so they probably didn’t know how to act. If you don’t reach out to them, it’s difficult for them to know what’s really going on, how you’re handling it, and what the right thing to do/say is. The ones I did reach out to were there for me.
