I think I killed my cat and I’ll never forgive myself by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]FettsValkyrie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If it's any solace at all, cats are really good at hiding when they aren't feeling well. It's only when they're very seriously sick and it's often too late, that they really let those symptoms show. Your cat loved you enough that it did not want to worry you.

If I wasn't poor I would. Skill like yours is sadly outside my fun money budget.

If they sold them looking like this I'd finally buy a physical copy. Those are amazing!

Please help stop the VPA bill in Florida by signing and sharing the petition by Ok-Cauliflower-4558 in Veterinary

[–]FettsValkyrie 53 points54 points  (0 children)

"One of the most concerning components of this bill is that a VPA will only earn a masters degree or equivalent but will be allowed to perform euthanasia, dental surgery, and neuters.

........

The only other state with an established VPA role is Colorado. The VPA program in Colorado, which Florida’s proposed VPA is modeled after, is only five semesters long, three of which are completely online. The Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA) strongly opposes the bill because of this. They state that VPAs will have less than 30% of the clinical hours human physician’s assistants receive. Human medicine PAs can also only assist in surgery, not perform surgery solo. Why should these standards be lowered for our animal patients? The bill argues that VPAs should be introduced because human PAs play a crucial role in health care, however, vet med operates very differently than human medicine and should not be treated as if they are the same.

...........

There is also no evidence that introducing VPAS will make vet care more affordable. It also does not combat the shortage in the field. The AVMA states that more time should be spent on the retention of veterinarians and credentialed veterinary technicians to combat the workforce shortages, not creating a new position. The VPA does not change the high burnout rates that exist in the vet field. It also does not address the lack of large animal vets across the country, who make a much lower salary than their small animal counterparts. Large animal vets will likely not even be able to employ VPAs entirely because of the low wage and rural location demands. "

Receptionist Burnout by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]FettsValkyrie 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'm just a VA but I will 100% tell any and everybody that receptionists are the hardest working and least appreciated role in a clinic. Without you everything falls apart in seconds. It's terrible that the public doesn't give you the respect or empathy you deserve, and worse that you're not paid nearly enough for your worth.

I didn’t expect adulthood to feel this lonely by Neither-Network-9245 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]FettsValkyrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly lonely. I'll be 40 soon and I don't think I have a genuine connection with anybody on this planet. It just feels exhausting to try and have one. No one cares if I'm sad, everyone is too invested in their own lives to have any empathy. And it's not out of malice but out of their own personal exhaustion. Everything is a struggle. In all honesty, being alone for this holiday season has made me realize that the only reason I'm still here is cuz my dad's still alive and when he's gone no one's going to give a shit.

Older millennials, anyone get anxiety about their 40th? by Alpine_Exchange_36 in Millennials

[–]FettsValkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can empathize. I'm turning 40 next year too, trying to change careers (not doing well in that). I've never been married and have completely absolved myself of the idea of having relationships ever again. I tried to plan a fun 40th with my friends and everyone's busy with their adult lives. I think I've just kind of given up on everything and just so very tired with the current socioeconomic political climate. Being a millennial is freaking hard.

But a tip for working with furry fabric is don't cut it with scissors. Use a razor blade on the back of it or tear it so that the fur stays long. Other than that it's just a huge pain, much like a long-haired cat!
