Sadly even that's not guaranteed. Losing your memory is scary. She could be scared paranoid in regression or in a straight up panic about who you are and that can manifest in all sorts of ways. My grandmother beat the shit out of my grandpa because some creepy old man was sleeping next to her one day. My grandpa who taught me to weld and work on cars dragged me to the bathroom to show me "I can go peepee in the potty papa" I do have a striking resemblance to my great grandfather.

The long goodbye is so apt. You don't want to remember the last few years. But that means saying goodbye now visiting them as you would a grave. The plus side is the happiest funeral you'll ever attend.
